Woodcraft Father’s Day Gift Guide with Scott Phillips

The American Woodshop’s Scott Phillips visited Woodcraft to help shoppers pick out their woodworking and DIY gift’s for dad this Father’s Day season. Let’s go through some of the tools and view Scott’s video for a full selection education.

First things first, safety is always at the top of the list when it comes to woodworking. Protection items start with the Bionic Face Shield (Woodcraft item #147814 for $56.99). I’ve got this one, and comparing it to a standard face shield, you can’t beat the form shape protecting you from chips flying off the lathe. It truly is a full face protection shield or as I like to call it, a full space protection shield while allowing for a comfortable fit and breathing ability.

You’ve got to try these, they really work well!

Scott also covers carving with Flexcut and pfeil tools. From planing, turning, sharpening, marking and measuring to hand and power tools, he details every item with explanations that only a top notch woodworker such as Scott could teach in a fine fashion that everyone can understand, simply in his own words, “It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Scott teaches that you never waste a piece of wood, as he always finds a fix or use in the safest possible way with an imagination that can build anything. The Portamate Tri-Function Adjustable Roller Stand is adjustable from 27″ to 43-3/4″ high, this pedestal work stand has a pivoting head for three types of support and holds up to 200 lbs. (item #154574 is $31.99).

From Big Gator Tools V-DrillGuide, Dad can drill straight every time with this portable guide for perpendicular alignment on flat surfaces, round parts and corners. Guide has 17 drill bit sizes, both standard and metric. (item #154758, standard, $24.90; item #154759, metric, $25.90)

The Work Sharp Field Sharpener 2.2.1is a complete knife sharpener for field, home and shop. This tool has built-in 20° and 25°

The Kreg Jig HD Starter Kit – This jig is designed for drilling pocket holes that are 25% larger than other Kreg Jigs in order to accept the massive Kreg HD screws needed to build outdoor furniture, fences, trellises, railing on decks and more using 1-1/2” and thicker material. For spray finishing and painting, the Earlex SprayStation Gemini HVLP Sprayer is a sure winner based on time convenience and ease of use.
