with Frank DieterPart 1: Friday, November 21, 2025, 9 AM - 5 PM
Part 2: Saturday, November 22, 2025, 9 AM - 5 PM
This two-day (16 hour) course teaches the fundamentals of box making. The student will learn how to use the table saw, router table, scroll saw, bandsaw, crosscut miter and spline jigs, planer, sanders, flush cut saws, and clamping techniques to create an heirloom quality keepsake box with a six-inch square ceramic tile imbedded in the top. We will use exotic and domestic woods chosen to match the floral tile design as well as brass hinges to accent the overall look of the finished box. Topics covered in this class include miter joints, slot cutting, design considerations, precision measuring and marking, spline cutting, gluing and clamping, and finishing products and techniques. A selection of tiles will be available for the student to choose from and the end product will be a keepsake box similar to those in the course advertising and made by the instructor. Prior experience with tools mentioned above is helpful but not required. You can expect ample one on one time with the instructor throughout the two-day course.
