Description: HANDS-ON. Paul DeMars will teach this dynamic and fundamental, "3-session", class for all beginning turners. Session #1: Spindle Turning. This class is geared to help you get started on the lathe. Tool selection, handling, safety and machine basics will be covered. You will learn how to make cuts to produce beads, coves and other basic spindle shapes. Session #2: Bowl Turning/Face Grain. Perfect your basic skills by learning to turn a wooden bowl. Face plate turning, tool selection, techniques, sanding and finishing will be covered. Session #3: Bowl Turning/End- Grain. Learn to turn another style of bowl by it's end-grain. End-grain bowls are very different than face-grain bowls and will allow you to expand your turning skills. Description: HANDS-ON. Chisels, scrapers, planes and saws are the most fundamental woodworking tools in the shop. Howard will provide hands-on instruction on how to sharpen, adjust and use each of these great tools. Students will practice "old world" basic exercises with each tool. Tool #1: Learn basic chisel techniques and how to cut a mortise for a hinge faster than any machine takes to set up. Tool #2: Learn how to use a cabinet scraper as a step toward applying a fine finish. Tool #3: Learn how great using a hand plane can be. Description: HANDS-ON. Our bowl turning instructor, Michael Boyle, has come up with a new and awesome class. Students will learn the unique techniques of spindle turning to create various sizes of Beads and Coves. These little "hills and valleys" are used to decorate all types of woodworking projects like candlesticks, tools handles and finials. A finial can dress up the lid of a turned bowl or a lidded box. You can make finials for furniture repair or make beautiful Christmas ornaments. Beads and Coves are used in all aspects of turning. Students will learn turning techniques, tool selection, wood selection and finishing details. Traditional tools are recommended to cut the fine details but, carbide tools are welcome. In this Lecture/Demo, students will learn how to build first-class looking cabinets for the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom or workshop. Learn how to build both the upper and lower units and how to install them for that perfect fit. Various joinery methods will be shown including Kreg Pocket Holes and Biscuits. Learn how to install Euro-style hinges with or without a face-frame, and also learn the tricks of the trade to installing drawer glides. This is a great class... don't miss it!

Standard and Divided Light designs will be shown and students will take home a small finished door that a piece of glass could be installed in. Description: HANDS-ON. The mortise and tenon is one of the oldest and strongest joints in woodworking history. It is used in almost every type of furniture construction including chairs, stools, tables, beds and cabinet door frames. Many woodworkers are afraid of this joint but, after attending the class, you will have a great understanding of it. This lecture/demo/hands-on class will show how to make the joint using various tools including hand tools, plunge router, router table, table saw, band saw, drill press and hollow chisel mortiser.

Turning Techniques For Beads And Coves with: Michael Boyle

Tools Required: Bring Your Own Lathe Tools
Description: HANDS-ON. Our bowl turning instructor, Michael Boyle, has come up with a new and awesome class. Students will learn the unique techniques of spindle turning to create various sizes of Beads and Coves. These little "hills and valleys" are used to decorate all types of woodworking projects like candlesticks, tools handles and finials. A finial can dress up the lid of a turned bowl or a lidded box. You can make finials for furniture repair or make beautiful Christmas ornaments. Beads and Coves are used in all aspects of turning. Students will learn turning techniques, tool selection, wood selection and finishing details. Traditional tools are recommended to cut the fine details but, carbide tools are welcome. Just be aware that carbide tools may not give you the fine details needed to make your design extra sharp. Class size is limited to only 4 students so, SIGN-UP A.S.A.P.
