Description: HANDS-ON. Paul DeMars will teach this dynamic and fundamental, "3-session", class for all beginning turners. Session #1: Spindle Turning. This class is geared to help you get started on the lathe. Tool selection, handling, safety and machine basics will be covered. You will learn how to make cuts to produce beads, coves and other basic spindle shapes. Session #2: Bowl Turning/Face Grain. Perfect your basic skills by learning to turn a wooden bowl. Face plate turning, tool selection, techniques, sanding and finishing will be covered. Session #3: Bowl Turning/End- Grain. Learn to turn another style of bowl by it's end-grain. End-grain bowls are very different than face-grain bowls and will allow you to expand your turning skills. Howard will provide hands-on instruction as each student builds a Krenov-style wooden smoothing plane using a variety of hardwoods and a top-of-the-line Hock plane blade kit. This smoothing plane will cut beautifully and be a treasured lifetime tool. You will even make a small blade setting hammer. Each student will make two small raised panel doors - one with the table saw and one with the router table. Students will receive a notebook outlining both methods.

Learn simple "old world" finishing from a student of Fine Woodworking's contributing editor and woodworking master, Tage Frid. This class will teach the four finishes that will easily work for the home shop. Demos will show how to prepare the wood for finishing, using everything from the thickness planer, to cabinet scraper, to the proper way to use sandpaper. Then learn the easy steps to apply a traditional oil finish, spray lacquer, varnish and French polish. Students will receive handy take-home notes detailing each of these finishes.

Description: HANDS-ON. PLEASE NO BEGINNERS. BASIC TURNING SKILLS NEEDED. We have a Great Turning Class for anyone interested in learning how to turn a bowl. Michael will provide hands-on teaching as each students turns a medium-size bowl about 5-6 inches in diameter. Students will learn how to mount a bowl blank to the lathe using several different methods and which tools to use and how to use them to make clean efficient cuts. This class also will cover the various types of finish, including oils, friction polish and even just buffing with wax. This will be a very popular class so, Sign-up A.S.A.P.

Students will learn all the ins-and-outs to make Glass Panel Doors on the router table. Don't under estimate the simple look of a glass door...there are a lot of details in making one but, CMT offers the wonderful Sommerfeld Glass Door router bit set that will have you making cuts that fit perfectly. Standard and Divided Light designs will be shown and students will take home a small finished door that a piece of glass could be installed in.
