The steel base provides a solid stable platform from which to work.

    They’ve upgraded the materials

Handle is solid. Acme threads on screw.

    Deluxe pen press

I bought this last summer thinking to upgrade my pen press. What a waste of money. I have had two now and the handle end keeps bending up on me so I am not able to get a straight push when putting the pens together. Normally I am really happy with everything that I purchase at Woodcraft but would definitely not recommend this at all.

    Works great

Few other people mentioned handle issues. Woodcraft told me they had a few issues so they upgraded the entire mechanism. This one is beefy and I'm not sure i could break it if i wanted to.

    Excellent

Beats the heck out of my old Milescraft. Heavier construction - I think the base is cast iron (or heavy duty steel). The various components are thicker and heavier as well. I was in the market for a new press just after my Milescraft buckeled. I think this press has better leverage and smother operation. An I got it on sale, which doesn't hurt

Works good until handle breaks off!

This pen press works good until the handle breaks where it screws into the pressing mechanism. For the price, you should not have to fix things before you start using it. It worked for about a week before the handle broke. Maybe the manufacturer will actually read the reviews ( most mention the faulty handle) and fix the issue. This press is pretty well built other that the handle design.

    Get the best

I was a little hesitant after reading a couple of reviews that stated poor quality handle strength. Decided to go with it anyway. After seeing it in person and using it today, rest assured it is made quite well. Mechanism works fine with no issues. I like the button/gear quick spacer adjustment. This makes resetting very quick. Much better than the flip up spacers found on other units. I turn some pretty thin antler pieces and have cracked some during assembly using a makeshift setup. This unit works very smooth and effortless. Am looking forward to many years of use. Don't hesitate to buy. Well designed heavy duty piece.

    Broken Lever

Would be nice if I could just buy another lever. I was very very surprised when it broke. I very much like the product

    Great tool

This tool is built very well. I got tired of spending an hour turning and finishing a pen to have it crack using a cheap hand vise to assemble my pens. It is worth the money.

    Top dollar; bottom quality

I have broken off two handles with minimum amounts of pressure in pressing pen parts. Seems to work well on very minor pressing needs. No apparent reason to have handle screw into mechanism. A terrific weak spot. Have a solid (permanent) handle and you will have a good product.

    excellent product

I have tried several pen presses. And none compare. The Woodriver is a little pricier than the ones I tried out, but is far more superior. If you make pens, this is for you.

    Works as advertised

No swearing required for the last step in pen making. Gives you great control in assembling the pen.

    A quality product

This press feels substantial and I really like how the push button works and the how you can turn the knob for small increment presses.

    Handle snapped off

The press worked great for about 5 pens. Then as I was pressing a pen, the handle snapped at the pivot joint. I will attempt to exchange for another tomorrow, but others seem to have had this problem.

well built pen press, weak handle

I looked at several pen presses before purchasing this press. I like the way it is built and the quick release screw feature. The handle is a bar that has been machined down on the end and threaded. It screws into the mechanism. Mine broke where the threads stop at the end of the handle. I drilled the end of the handle and rethreaded with a 1/4" - 20 tap. I also had to drill the mechanism to accept a 1/4" diameter bolt. I installed the bolt, threading it into the handle. Created a much better joint. Very satisfied with the pen press.

Pen Press is well built...except for:

Overall this is a very well built product. It does have one weakness. Where the handle screws in, the threads snapped off after very little pressure. I think a good weld and it should last a long time.
