Kayak Building Part 6 – Shaving and Scraping the Epoxy
Earlier in May, Lee commented on Kayak Blog #3 that “I am an avid woodworker and kayaker and a regular visitor at our local Woodcraft Store (Parkersburg). I gotta do this!” Since Lee was a local customer, I contacted him through email and invited him to the lockmaster’s house to check out the boat. I found that he actually lives about 80 miles away, but he would be passing through the area the next week, so we made plans to meet in Marietta.

Perfect for the price!!!
bit bulky at first but once you figure out where the perfect scraping zone is, it works pretty good, prevents alot of sore thumb muscles... use my scrapers all the time so comes in pretty handy...

Broken after 30 minutes
Worked satisfactorily the first go round, but within 30 minutes the threaded wood screw and hole were stripped. Pretty useless after that. A metal threaded screw and hole would have been more durable.

Just What I Expected
Iam unable to maintain sufficient thumb pressure on my scraper to do even a small job. This holder is the perfect solution. Now I can concentrate on scraping rather than on holding it in the right position. I even found myself scraping with one hand when working on the final passes. Yes, it's that easy - now.

Great for Older and Younger Hands
If you have arthritis or hand strength problems and don't use a scraper because of these problems here is the answer. The holder feels a bit bulky when you first start to use it. After a little practice it is great. The scraper holder not only allows me to use a scraper, which is faster and smoother than sanding, it helps maintain a constant bow in the scraper blade. This helps with consistant cutting action. Another plus is no more hot thumbs. I have used this with refinishing and new projects with great success. Another plus is that Woodcraft service is excellent!
