During last year’s WoodExpo 2011 at the New England Home Show, we featured a blog on Kevin Mack Fine Furniture. Kevin is located in Malden, Massachusetts and can also be found online at
www.kevinmackfinefurniture.net. The Mack attack is back at the 2012 show with 5 new fantastic entries showing off his creativity and woodworking expertise. The main goal for all 5 pieces was to create 3 color tones in each piece.
The first time Dwayne Ernest stepped onto a live audience stage was to show 3 examples of refurbishing projects he and his Woodcraft team built for a refurbishing contest sponsored by Sonoran Living Live and his Chandler, AZ Woodcraft Store.

Odered this veneer sample pack to aid in woodworking projects for identification, etc. The overall quality of the product is good. The selection of wood samples is broad, though it seems to be filled with a lot of exotic woods that I will most likely never come across. Would like to have seen a stronger representation of domestic woods included. I was also diappointed to find duplicates included (2). This meant at least part of my purchase price was wasted.
Great pack for what I need.
I use this product to make bentwood rings. I love the wide selection of woods available as it gives me a lot of choice for my rings. I know a lot of people complain about the thickness of the wood but it works well for me as it allows for a few layers without becoming to thick. The only con is something I agree with all the other posters about, there is no way to collect all species of wood without getting a ton of duplicates. I wouldn't mind duplicates of certain species but there are a few that are not suitable for my uses.
Sample Pack best for Match and Show
Veneer Sample Pack with 50 Species is a great way to make any wood project with multiple woods to use. I only wish they came in bigger packages of 150 of each wood.
Good kit but fragile
Good selection of timbers. Should be in parts (i.e. part one had certain timbers and part two had different timbers) as opposed to just a random selection. As I would like to get the whole set of the veneers but don't want too many duplicates, especially on the timbers that I didn't like too much. The veneers are good for minor craft work and testing stains and finishing products. Because of the fact that they're only half a millimetre thick or so, you can't actually get a feel for rigidity and hardness of the timber. I have backed 90 mm by the width of the veneers onto pieces of 4 mm MDF just to give them a bit of strength.
include more lesser-known species
this is just what i was looking for.
this makes wood identification so much easier.
Bare bones, but useful.
Got this for my husband who's interested in learning to identify wood. It's not a bad set at all, but aside from a generic list of woods that might be included in the kit (selection varies) there is no information included to aid in instruction. Since all the tiles are paper thin it's hard to even get a feel for how hard or soft the wood would normally be to help in selecting project materials. I guess it's good enough, but I was hoping for a little more.
Excellent educational tool
Great to identify different woods at a glance. I glued the veneers to 4" x 4" 1/4 plywood, put a magnet in the back and stick all 50 of them to one of my walls. Now I know the difference between English walnut and claro walnut...

Would not recommend this product!
Perfect for selecting woods
It is great for wood ID but it had only two wood species from South America. I understand that all species were not available at my time of purchase but I would love to complete the collection without having to purchase duplicate samples.
