    Tupelo

Worked great. This wood is not for knife or chisel carvers, stick to Basswood. It is great for those using Foredom, Dremel and Gesswein style power tools. Basswood fuzzes up when using texturing stones and won't sand smooth. Tupelo sands out great. I carved an American Kestrel following the instructions on Floyd Scholz's book and video, and couldn't be more pleased.

    Not suitable for hand tools

Not good for any hand tools. Carving knife, hook knives, forget about it. The wood splits and cracks no matter what direction the blade goes.
