Efficient
The efficiency of the dust collector greatly increased when I replaced the original separator. The connections on the WoodRiver are sealed and the gasket on the lid is tight. I'm very pleased.

Dust collector blows the lid off
I have this lid which I've connected to my Shop Fox dust collector. The impeller feeds the side with the elbow; the other side connects to the dust bag. The issue i have is that the force from the impeller blows the lid off the garbage can. I used a bungee cord and threaded through the handles to hold the lid down. Turn it on, it flexes the lid off the can on the opposite sides. No problem, I installed U-bolts on the opposing sides and used another bungee. Turn it on and it still forces the lid off the can. I need a way to secure the lid to the can so I can easily remove it but still provide a good seal between the lid and the can

Not a lot
This system doesn't seem to stop much from getting to my vacuum, and the elbow on the inside keeps coming off. I am going to get something else. Probably a dust deputy.

Design could be improved
It's not a bad way to create a cheap cyclone pre-filter, but the design could be improved. A proper cyclone has the air coming into the bin near the perimeter and the output (air going into the dust collector) centrally located. Both ports on the lid are located mid-way to the wall of the bin, so it isn't very efficient. I fixed this by adding another 90 degree elbow and directing it to the middle of the lid (essentially making both 90s point towards each other); now air exhausts closer to the center of the bin and the cyclone works considerably better. The whole setup is on the inexpensive side, but it is kind of annoying to spend an additional $12 when it could have been avoided with a properly designed product

Money well spent
I purchased the Wood River Dust Connection connector for my 70 Harbor Freight dust collector about a year ago. When it's about half full, I empty my trash can. Usually, there is about 1 /4 of a cup of dust in my bag. In addition to wood chips not going through, my propeller is bound to make my dust collector last longer. Money well spent.

Wood River cyclone lid
I use it for my miter saw and it works pretty well. I use it for my orbital sander and it does nothing. The dust goes directly to the filter on my shop vac. I am considering Oneida unit.
-
Weekend hobbyist love it.
This product works better than expected, and I have not had to empty my dust bag Since December. The trash can collects the overwhelming majority of dust and debris. It gets connected to a table saw, router table, and a jet 16/32 sander. Zero complaints for this product, it’s not pretty but beats paying $500 plus for a pretty one.
-
Meets all expectations
I was prepared for mediocre functionality, but was most pleasantly surprised. With an extra $25 in a trash can and a couple clamps. I was able to use my 10ft hose cut into 3ft length and 7 ft length, and I was up and running. I am shocked at the difference in performance.
-
works beautifully
Wow, I am so impressed. I have a small 3/4 hp dust collections system. Using a 4" ductwork that is no more than 20' long, the cyclone lid was placed on a Behrens 31 gal. trashcan I bought at Lowes. The system is hooked up to a table saw, chop saw, and radial arm saw. It works so well, it seems to me that 99% of the dust is collected by the cyclone lid. You won't need any clamps for the lid, the suction holds it very well to the lid with its included gasket.

Works Great With My Jet D.C.
I have used a Jet 1100c (canister on top) for 8 years. I added a galvanized trash can and this Cyclone Lid to it 2 years ago to make it 2 stages. OMG, I couldn't believe the improvement in the dust being/not being collected in the Jet bag. You have to empty the can after it fills about 1/3 to 1/2 or it will get sucked into the D.S. like before you added this. 4" D.C. plastic hose will fit the two openings on the Lid just secure with hose clamps. Love it!
-
Exceeds expectations!
Great product. I put this on a $24 HD metal can. Seal is perfect. You can actually pick up the can by the lid when the unit is running. Catches nearly all dust and all debris. I swear I have better suction than before with my 1HP unit. I assume this is because the cloth bag does not get clogged. If you are on the fence, do yourself a favor and pick one up.

Tras Can Cyclone Lid
The trash can cyclone lid worked better than expected. After filling my metal trash can about a third full there was only about an inch to an inch a half of saw dust inside my bag. The lid is tightly secured with only the dust collectors vacuum. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking empty their collection bag less often. Thanks, for a great product, Roy

Awesome product and would recommend to all!
I bought this product about a week ago. After I bought the reducers and set up the system to accept my shop vac it worked like a dream. I found the trash can at a local Tractor Supply which was a Behrens 31 Gallon Galvanized Steel Utility/Trash Can. The lid went on as if it was made for it. When my 12.5 gallon 5 hp shop vac was attached and running you could lift the entire can off the ground by the handle of the cyclone lid. No need to strap it down and suction was tight. I had emptied my entire shop vac, wiped clean the inside of it, and changed filter before trying it out. I cleaned up several spots of chips, sawdust, ect. throughout my shop. When I stopped to check I found nothing in the shop vac or in its filter. Everything was in the can and was amazed. When it was running it even made the sound of a cyclone/tornado. I am truly impressed with this product and would recommend to anyone!

GREAT Inexpensive Cyclone
I put this in and LOVE it. Works perfectly. It is taking 99.5% of everything into the trash can and only a tiny amount into the shop vac.
-
So Easy To Hook Up
Looked at all the reviews and retail stores and decided on this one. I bought a new metal trash can and hooked it up to my Jet DC 1100 dust collector. Working great so far I wish I had bought thi sooner.
-
Worth the money
This product works as advertised, separates the chips/dust before it hits the dc. I read that some are using a plastic garbage can, in my experience, a powerful dc will suck and collapes the can, use a standard 30gal metal can. My only problems are the elbow coming loose and when pulling my hose, my empty can will fall over. These will be simple fixes once I get aroundtoit
-
A solution to fit.
Take a "standard" plastic, 35 gallon trash can with a domed lid and cut most of the dome off, leaving about an inch above the lid rim. The cyclone lid will fit perfectly onto the rim and can be held in place with silicone. The inch left above the rim hits the gasket inside, and a bead of silicone there adds to the strength. Of course, the lid rim fits the trash can perfectly and remains secure and easily removable.
-
Does what it's supposed to!
I have a stationary mounted small dust collector and this makes it real easy to empty the large dust chips out without having to empty the bag very much! I have it mounted on top of a 31 gallon metal trash can and the only problem I have found is that it does not sit tightly when it is not being used, while in its operation it gets sucked down tightly and the foam seal helps seal in the suction. A couple of strips of duct tape keeps the lid in position until the suction clamps it down!

Low Cost Solution For Hobbiest
Single stage dust collector was plugging up when jointing wide boards, this product completely eliminated that issue. Also only the finest dust makes it to the dust bag on the collector and I rarely have to change it any more. My only issue is that when used with DeWalt 735 planer the cyclone lid lifts just enough to blow chips out. Solution: put something heavy on the lid.
-
Good lid
The connections could be better but the overall design is an improvement over the old kind with just holes to stick the hose in.
-
Fits most standard garbage cans.
Fits standard garbage cans and does the job on my 3/4 Hp wall mounted vacuum system servicing a table saw and joiner. A new metal can plus this adapter will set you back about $50 though. I have it installed on a standard 30 gallon can with the 90 degree internal elbow installed per instructions (to create a cyclone effect).
-
Simple poduct works great!
The only problem found was that the elbow on the intake inside of the cyclone lid would at times fall off - simple solution was a small screw through the elbow at the point of where it slides onto the cyclone lid - problem solved!
-
Works great BUT use the right can
I am happily surprised how great this works with a 1.5HP Delta dust collector. I wish I had done it years ago! When I got a DeWalt 735 planer, I started filling up the lower bag of my dust collector very fast... I added this and very little makes it in there now, even when planing 1/32" and making pretty fine dust! Finding the right trash can is critical... The common 20 gallon plastic trash cans can fit but I think would be too short. The 35 gallon ones are too big. Fortuately I found a 31 gallon metal can with a 20.75" outside diameter which fit perfect! The lid stays on without needing a bungee cord or anything. The suction of the dust collector alone keeps it on tight... I love it! Now I haven't filled the can half way yet, but at some point it will get full enough that chips/dust will start getting sucked out, but it is SO much easier to empty than the bag on my duct collector that I think I will be doing it a lot more frequently, so don't expect that to be an issue.
-
Works well for wood chips, sawdust and s
The top works well with reduced 2-1/2" hoses and a shop vac. It needs a heavy duty trash can, which can be hard to find.
-
Works surprisingly well!
I bought this for use on a portable planer for controlling the shavings. I bought an additional 90 degree elbow to add inside the lid. The two ells are facing in opposite directions. I found that the garbage can collects all the shavings and none go into the Shop Vac. Works very well.
-
Good concept, I guess ...
This item has one overwhelming flaw: it's designed to be used on a 32-gallon metal trash can -- which means the chips and dust cannot fall far enough away from the infeed-outflow connections to avoid being sucked back out of the can by a powerful vacuum system. I'd recommend that this be used with a vacuum system moving no more than 1000 cu ft per minute!
-
Promising idea, but ...
I installed this in line between my Woodmaster planer-molder and my Woodmaster heavy-duty (5 hp) dust collector to keep large planer chips out of the impeller. The setup works until the trash can is about half-full; then the vacuum starts just sucking the trash right on through and into the collector. I'm going to try putting it on a taller container in hopes of extending its usefulness, but right now I'm getting only about 12 gallons of collection before the unit stops giving benefit.

Cyclone Lid
As quoted the lid does separate wood turning chips nicely. I have found the lid does not fit securely to the metal trash can lip and I need to weigh it down (this may be due to the 1hp blower I use). As others have stated the right angle extension that fits under the lid into the can can work loose and may need to be glued into place. Overall, I really like it though.
-
This lid works great
My old lid leaked alot of dust from around the lid and at the hose connections, this lid has good seal and has increased the suction by 100%.
-
Cyclone your Single Stage Dust Collector
I was tired of emptying the bags on my single stage dust collector, so I bought the cyclone lid. This well made product is already saving me time by simply removing the lid and emptying my trash can. If you have a jointer or planer, consider this a necessity.
-
Works very well
Linked between my Penn State 2 hp and the collection hood on my lathe, this pulls 90% of debris into the can, rather than the collector. SO MUCH easier to empty. I'll be getting another for the Delta vac out in the garage.
-
I would buy this product again.
I use it as a pre dust filter and it works great.
-
Nice addition to dust collection
Nice addition to the small shop that can't justify a commercial setup for dust control.
-
Great Item!!!
this is "GREAT"... just what I needed for my small shop space. It works great helping to keep the dust down in my shop space...
-
Worth every penny
I connected this to my thickness planer and have run several hundred board feet of cherry through and my dust collector bag is still empty all the chips and shavings are in the trash can what a easy way to keep from emptying the bag in the middle of a project
-
Good upgrade to a single-stage DC
With 20-20 hindsight, I should have purchased a 2-stage dust collector. Not wanting to buy one now, adding a garbage can and Woodcraft's cyclone separator lid works pretty well. When seated correctly the lid does separate out nearly all the chips/dust and keeps the bigger 'stuff' from hitting the impeller. Thumbs up. About my only gripes are 1) the seal is a little hard to get lined up nicely with a Rubbermaid 20 gallon can (perhaps some other can fits the top perfectly) and 2) there is no attachment mechanism for the lid. A bungee cord does the job. If this lid fit the can better and came with a hold down it would be a 5-star item.
-
Trash Can Lid
Fantastic, I hardly ever have empty the plastic bag under the vac system. I have Jet 650 Dust Collector and the bag stays empty just have to empty to trash can and the filter stays clean.
-
Love it.
Sure does save from having to take the bag off the dust collector so often.
-
Awsome it works great
What a great idea
-
Needs to be latched down
Works ok, but needs to be secured on the can with a rope, no way to latch
-
Low Cost Option for Chip Removal
I'm using to remove turnings from my lathe to avoid clogging the dust remover - works well with a large garbage can I had on hand.
-
Great product
Great product. Changing my dust collector bag is a real hassle, now I do not need to do it as often. I used it with my thickness planer and 98% of my dust went in the trash can, not the dust collector bag. Only cons are that it will not fit well on most plastic trashcans, so I had to buy a metal one and the inside deflector pipe needs to be seated well or it will fall out. Both of these cons are minor compared to the great results.
-
Works
I bought this to use in-line with my shop vac to collect chips from my planer. The planer has a blower that blows harder than the shop vac sucks, so I have positive pressure in the trash can and have to strap the cyclone lid on to keep the chips from blowing out. Almost nothing gets to the shop vac.
-
Great Product
I was very pleased when I got this cyclone separator up and running. Virtually no suction loss. Would definately recommend using a steel trash can, as plastic will suck in.
-
Does the JOB!!!
Excellent product for removing chips from my Jointer/Planner before they reach the dust collector. It has eliminated the clogged hose and resulting clean out.
-
A must have
I use this with my Jet dust collector and a metal trash can. Prior to adding this to my system, the dust collector bag filled up extremely quickly, esp while planing. I also had frequent jams where the hose connects to the dust collector while planing & joining. This simple piece effectively separates the particles from the air stream and I hardly ever have to empty the dust collector bag and haven't had to deal with any more blockages. I was pleasantly surprised by how well this works and feel this is an essential element in my shop.
-
I Love this thing
I use this in a small shop with limited space. I do alot of woodworking and it easily handles the tabesaw, drill presses, lathe and sanders. This product allows me to set only a trashcan in the shop and have the rest of the dust system outside of the shop.
-
great tool
part of my dust collection system does a great job.
-
nice
good
-
WORKS WELL
EFFECTIVELY SEPARATES CHIPS AND SMALL PIECES OF WOOD FROM MY SHOP DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM. HOWEVER, I BOUGHT IT BEFORE PURCHASING MY JET DUST COLLECTOR WHICH HAS A SEPARATOR BUILT IT FOR THE SAME PURPOSE. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CENTRAL SHOP DUST COLLECTOR WITH ONE BUILT IN I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
-
A very simple time saver
When using this device with my planer and shaper it makes it so much easier. My dust collector bag stays almost empty and dumping the trash can into a plastic bag is quick and simple. Once I have all of my shop tools hooked up my shop will be easier to clean up and I'll have more time to "kick back" and relax (at 75 that's becoming more important).
-
BIG Help reducing dust and saw dust
I attached this directly to my dust collector. I added latches to keep the lid tight. Workes very well. The elbow reduces dust getting into the filters.
-
A Must Have
I'm using a JET DC-500 dust collector with a JET JPM-13 planer, among other tools. Before getting this device, the DC-500 would clog within a minute of planing and the bag would fill up very quickly also. Adding this lid and a 30 gal metal trash can as a pre-filter has completely solved both these problems. Surprisingly, the 90 degree elbow fell off once and caused virtually all of the chips entering the can to continue through to the dust collector; what a difference this simple design addition makes!
-
Fantastic, my shop vac is now Super Vac.
I plan to bolt my pre filter to my vac to make it more easily manuverable. The pre filter is a five gallon pale with this attached. Using this I don't have to clean my vac filter, very little matter gets into the vacuum itself. It goes in the 5 gal bucket. And the suction is unbelievable. I can suck up a knee deep pile of sawdust in minutes. Fantastic.
-
Poor value
Not a good value for the money, it has not cyclone action
-
Perfect cover
The bag on my dust collector used to fill on a few boards, and the inlet to the blower would also clog too often; the can/cover is "sweet"!
