Great Edge Holding & Cutting BUTT !
Sorby makes great tools, no doubt about it. The steel they use if first rate. The handles hold up fine. I give the tool 5 stars and the handle length 3 stars which equals 4 stars. Short handles are great for some spindle turning, parting, and cutting beads and coves. To get the 16" handle against your body for bowls, you must put yourself very close to the workpiece which is not the place to be if you are looking at the profile as you cut. I believe that a longer handle in the 16 to 18 inch range would add a lot. The entire tool and handle is only 16 1/2 inches long total. Longer handles give the necessary weight, control, stability and range of BODY ( not arm ) motion to knock off the bark and hollow the bowl. I use Sorby steel in Oneway handles which alone are 17" long and weighs more than 3 of these tools together. Give us a longer handle, when we hit a tree, we want a truck, not a Volkswagon.

A great product
This is a great bowl gouge. I turn larger projects for clients and really enjoy using it. It is easy to hone and doesn't need to be ground very often.
