Rubio® Monocoat Oil Plus 2C (OP2C) is a revolutionary two-component version of the original Oil Plus formula, designed for added durability and a faster cure time with a single coat. The included accelerator allows the finish to reach full strength in just three to five days and improves resistance to wear, water, heat and common stains. Like the original, it uses molecular bonding to connect with the top microns of the wood fiber, producing a natural matte finish without forming a film.
Because the finish does not bond to itself, it applies cleanly with no risk of lap lines, streaks or overapplication. This plant-based hardwax oil is easy to use and beginner friendly, yet delivers the durability and consistency professionals need. If the surface is damaged, the area can be sanded and refinished without affecting the surrounding wood.
OP2C is VOC free, nontoxic and food safe once cured. Cleanup is easy with soap and water. It’s ideal for high-traffic commercial or residential spaces and available in a wide range of color options.
Note: Before applying this product, the surface must be completely clean and dust-free to ensure proper bonding with the wood fibers. Mix Part A and Part B at a 3:1 ratio, then apply the oil in sections of 50 to 100 square feet. Spread evenly until no oil or color rings remain, then allow a reaction time of at least 5 minutes. Remove all excess within 30 minutes. The product remains usable for 4 to 6 hours after mixing and will not leave lap lines when applied correctly.
OP2C has an exceptional coverage rate, making it an efficient and economical choice. A 20 ml bottle provides enough product to finish a standard chair with ease.

FAQs
If Oil Plus 2C won't stick to itself, what is the rationale for suggesting multiple coats as seen in videos from actual users of the product?
Oil Plus 2C is specifically designed to bond with raw wood and will not adhere properly over an existing layer unless the surface is lightly abraded with a maroon ScotchBrite-style pad. For highly absorbent woods such as Walnut or Cherry, the initial application may be absorbed unevenly, especially if the oil is not thoroughly worked into the wood, resulting in a dry or blotchy appearance. In these situations, a secondary application, referred to as a "Renovation", is recommended: simply abrade the entire surface with a maroon pad to allow adhesion, then apply an additional coat of Oil Plus 2C to achieve a uniform finish.
Does Oil Plus 2C require future maintenance coats?
Yes, surfaces finished with Oil Plus 2C will require some maintenance over time, especially in areas with heavy use or visible color loss. When color restoration is not necessary, simply apply Renew. If color restoration becomes necessary, follow the Oil Plus 2C Renovation process: lightly abrade the entire surface with a maroon pad, then reapply Oil Plus 2C in the original color. Typically, maintenance is suggested every 3-7 years, depending on factors such as traffic, wear and environmental conditions.
Will the colors fade over time when exposed to light?
Oil Plus 2C pigments help provide some resistance to fading, but it's important to note that Rubio interior products do not offer UV protection. Only their exterior products are formulated to protect against UV rays. Like all finishes, colors may fade slightly with prolonged exposure to light, especially UV rays. Additionally, wood itself is naturally sensitive to light and will change color over time due to photochemical reactions. Regular maintenance and minimizing direct sunlight can help preserve the appearance of your wood surfaces for longer.
