Fantastic way to make your router more useful/accurate

I have been making some gates in the fence attached to my house. I was desirous of routing hinges (4; heavy gate) on both the gate & post next to it. I had a Porter-Cable plunge router, acquired at an auction, without the standard guide bushing adapter; this not only fit (as the description said it would), but the centering pin is definitely a huge plus: using it makes sure that you are in line with the axis of your router, so that you have an EVEN distance from your bit to the edge of your template. This means that you can have far more precise, reproducible results. For me, I routed 8 hinge beds (4 hinges * 2 beds/hinge) with NO need to "adjust"--fix with a hand chisel--ANY of them. First time doing this, excellent results, so this base and centering pin were a big part of my fantastic success.

    Caution

Good concept but could that much better if made with Lexan. Word of caution when mounting plate on router- do not use Locktite red or blue on screws- even a very small amount will react with the plexiglass and cause it to crack as soon as you tighten the screws. Should be a warning about this. Ruined 2 plates.

    Dewalt mounting less than optimal

I was hoping to use this plate as the primary base on my fixed base router, however the plate uses the 3 hole mounting pattern (instead of the 4 hole). This puts 2 of the screws into the edge guide rail mounts and the third screw is too long to tighten in the remaining blind threaded hole. I haven't figured out how to effectively cut the shortest screws in half.

Jasper Router Base Plate w/centering pin

The holes in the router base plate lined up perfectly and the centering pin made it quick and easy to align the plate perfectly to the bit. Awesome product and very easy to install and calibrate.

    well thought out

This base plate is a must if you hope to do accurate pattern routing using porter cable guide bushings because it insures that the bit and the guide are concentric no matter what part of the guide bushing is against the template.

    Good and flat

OK, first of all I was quite disappointed with how NOT flat the baseplate of my "top brand" routers are. This base plate is a bit expensive, but add it to the overall cost of a new router. It's well worth it. Especially crucial if used with a dovetail jig. This baseplate if flat. The cutout for guide bushings is a near perfect fit. The only disappointment I had with the (two) centering pins I now have, is that I can see how much runout there is in my router collets/spindle. Better to know than not to know, none the less.

    See your work

I bought this base simply because it was transparent--in order to see my work. It fit my Porter Cable router perfectly and makes the work easy to see. I don't know why all routers don't have clear plastic bases.

    Works without "modification"

Works right out of the packaging on the Bosch 1617 EVSPK plunge base without elongating or countersinking the mounting holes.

Base Plate that actually fits my router

Most "universal" base plates seem to have so many holes but none really fit well on my Bosch 1617. This one does.

    Perfect solution

This base fit my 15 year old Craftsman router perfectly. I could not find a base from [@] for my router that would handle standard template guides (even though I bought the guide set from [@]). This was a good find!

    Great Inovation

I was pleased to find a clear acrylic base that would accept the Porter Cable style guide bushing and fit my Craftsman router. Works like a charm with my Rockler dovetail jig.

    Great product

I have a Black & Decker plunge router that would not accommodate bushings. The Jasper router base converted my router to accept all standard size bushing.

Great additon to router, should be standa

Great addition to router, you can see what you're doing! All router should come with a clear base, a black base is just dumb, but probably cheaper!

    Excellent idea

Allows use of non-Black & Decker Sub-base routers. I did have to find shorter pan-head screws the ones furnished to attach the sub-base. Centering pin is a great idea!

Hard to find a base that that will work with ryobi routers and PC bushing guides, but this one does.
