Handy tool, with modification
The knife edge shape is incorrect. It needed to be radiused so it could be used in either direction. A straight angle bevel can only be used to cut in one direction, but a marking/cutting gauge needs to be set for use in forward or reverse direction. A radiused bevel allows this. With modification, tool is usable.

Good Little Gauge
The cutter originlly was too soft but hardened easilly with a tourch and oil quench. Care must be used to put the cutter on the right side to allow for straight sides to the cut. The factory grind on the cutter hen limits you to a push stroke for cutting. If you like a pull stroke then the cutter will need to be reground. The brass wear strips were proud of the wood fence but a little time on a flat surface with fine paper brought them down flat in no time. Overall, a nice little gauge.

Rosewood Cutting Gauge
A very nicely made cutting gauge. Chinese made isn't always poor quality as in this case. It should last a life time.
