Freud’s newest rail-and-stile bit sets not only cut standard cope-and-stick profiles, but also create full-length (or less) tenons. The key is the two-part rail bit. After cutting the ends of the rails, you remove the top section of the bit and continue using the cutter to increase the length of the tenon. But is it as simple as it sounds? I requested a set to find out.

      Good Value Jig

I got this to be able to build tables. It has a pretty extensive manual that has some room for improvement but is better than most. There are a few things (like squaring the material) that are left for you to figure out. I don't like that you have to "experiment" a but to find the right fit, I guess this is due to the fact that different routers have different tolerances so Leigh had to account for that. Over all a good product. If i had to do it over I would have bought the FMT and paid more!

NOT SUPER, ... it's the Cheesy FMT

Spent all day setting it up and doing test joints, only to find that the metal plate that the router sets on deflects when you push down on the router, causing inconsistent depth of both the cutting head and the guide pin in the pattern. Going to try and trade it up for the real thing. Save your money - get the REAL FMT.

Super FMT is a good tool

Cuts great mortises and tenons. Instruction manual is well done and written in clear, unbroken English. The alignment tool works well. The tool is made of heavy gauge steel. My only problem so far is that it is sometimes difficult to place the hold down clamps where they need to be placed to hold the stock securely.

      Finally at a good price

Have not got to use it much. It was easy to set setup/assemble. Definitely need more clamps than the two provided to hold pieces other than that it is great.

      Well engineered product

After a bit of assembly - about 1 hour, I was making very accurate mortise and tenon assemblies. I'll need to manufacture some accessories, as described in the manual for it to be fully functional, but I'm looking forward to making many things more easily than I could have every made them before.

      A Dream for a novice

First time to ever try a mortise and tenon. With a little adjustment. The fit was right on!!!
