Arrived in great shape!
My main concern was getting this to my place in one piece. Not sure what's going on with the shipping industry or the packaging industry...but I've recently received lots of damaged items lately. Woodcraft seemed to chose a better shipper this time and it made a big difference just in the condition of the box. This Jet sander is fantastic. Runs pretty smooth. Produces really nice sanding results...quite impressive. Not sure why I didn't get one of these years ago! Fit and finish is great. Edge of the base seems a little weak compared to the rest of the build. It's a great sized unit. Perfect for the type of work I do as a hobbyist.

Dust Port Fitting
This machine is great. I see most of the negative comments are about the dust port being odd (agree) but woodcraft DOES sell a fitting for it. Link is below, 4"-2 1/4" fits perfectly! http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2000899/15447/4-to-2-14-Reducer-Fitting.aspx

Great except for odd size dust port.
The dust port is 2". I've been unable to find a straight 2" to 2 1/2" or a 2" to 4" adapter for my dust control system. You can get reducers but that requires buying some 2" hose. I am just astounded that Jet didn't use a standard 2 1/2" dust port.

Solid Sander
This seems like a solid machine. As in other reviews the table needed to be finely adjusted for square. The storage slots for the inserts had to be filed so the inserts would fit. The storage holes for the arbors also had to be filed to fit.At first I thought it was paint build up, but no,I had to file quite a bit of metal. They put so much thought in creating storage for parts, but they didn't pull it off very well. Also they included 3 open end wrenchs, but didn't think about storage for them at all. They'll probably end up lost in a tool drawer. These are little picky things. The rest of the machine is solid and strong and performs well. JD

Really great machine - no regrets buying
I've used this spindle sander for a few weeks now. I don't regret at all buying this spindle sander. I considered the low-end Delta, Grizzly, and similar knock-offs, but this one was worth the money (got on sale). There are 3 irritations though. (1) No storage for the wrenches. (2) on some of the spindles that have the rubber shaft, the nut vibrates loose causing the sanding tube to travel downward. I have to tighten/compress the rubber shaft every few minutes. Since the threads are reversed, I can't simply go to the hardware store for locking nuts. (3) The dust port is 2 1/4" (why 2 1/4"?) Can't get the proper size reducer from Woodcraft. My local Woodcraft store told me that I needed to just use duct tape to size up. I couldn't bring myself to do that to a new ~$450 tool. Was able to buy a reducer from another source and then had to gerry-rig with a couple other adapters to get that reducer to connect to my 2 1/2" dust collection system. I see others complain about ineffective dust collection. I've had mixed results here. I've passed that off due to the odd-ball sized port, my own less-than-efficient gerry-rigging along with the power of my shop vacuum that is drawing the vacuum. All-in-all, if I were to buy a spindle sander over again, I'd still get this one. I've been most satisfied with the results despite the irritations described above.

Nice, great value
Would not really call it a bench top, too tall. Simple MDF base took care of that. Nicely built

Find another brand
Mine is almost two years old. Bearings are going out. I should have taken it back while it was still under warranty - It made bearing noise right out of the box - but the noise has gotten really bad now. In fact I should have returned the day I bought it. The spindle was not square to the table from day one. I spent about an hour trueing it, but never really got it perfect. I'm just going to let the bearing burn the motor out and then go get a different machine.

A great machine for shaping wood
We use this machine almost every day. It is a powerful and reliable resource for us.

Easily could be better
3" spindle and table plate are optional and too expensive. Difficult to adjust spindle for squareness if factory alignment is off. Had to use duct tape and wood to create a adequate seal for dust collection Odd size dust collection port Table inserts had to be shimmed to get them level with top Minor stuff but it made setup time consuming Otherwise it works well

Nice Machine
Does a great job in sanding up to the line.

Terrific product, Great price, Fast ship
The 3" drum is expensive, but I think it's a must have! Should have been included with sander.

JBOS is the BOSS
Smooth, powerful, and quiet. It does a good job sanding. I haven't had time to make the bowls I bought it for; however, it has been very handy on other projects-'backcutting' miters for baseboards and quarter round for a very tight fit. This will become a staple in the shop.
-
Good product for a good price
I use it for many of my projects without any problems.
-
A super deal
You will not be disappointed, This machine does exactly what it was designed to do, SAND, and it does it well. Plenty of power, solid construction and just a pleasure to use. What more can I say. Oh yeah, best price in town!

great addition to the shop!
The first use of this sander was to sand curved edges of a table top. The end result was like night and day. There is no comparison to using my drill press. The assembly was minimal [...] At around 75lbs shipping weight it still can be moved around the shop rather easily if needed but still very stable when in use. Changing out the spindles is very easy and only takes seconds. The dust collection port is another great feature and my shop vac hooked right up to the port. It has been a great addition to my shop.

It meets my expectations
There is no way I would consider myself a -professional woodworker and with that I judged this product as to it meeting my needs. I build furniture, picture frames, childrens toys etc and it provides the quick finishing touches and corrections I need. It's powerful, quiet, and fits in my workshop.
-
Good bang for the buck
Great for rounding odd shapes and making router templates. Ideal for a shop with limited space. You can place it anywhere for use and storage. I was impressed that when I hooked it up to my dust collection system that there was minimal dust generated. I recommend this unit to any woodworker looking to save tedious hours of sandind time.

Solid Machine but poor quality control.
This machine runs smooth and is very quiet. The cast iron table is a plus keeping vibration to a minimum. The results so far sanding oak and cherry have been impressive. Changing spindles and sanding sleeves is very easy. The 1/4" spindle has been particularly useful. Jet does need to improve their quality control. The spindles come up off center through the inserts. The slots in the storage tray needed to be ground out in order for the table inserts to fit and the inserts themselves need to be shimmed in use or they sit below the level of the table. The problems are easily remedied, but shouldn't exist. Correspondence to Jet has gone unanswered.

Perfect templates in a breeze!
Beats the old sanding drum on the drill press and with the various sizes in drums, a must have for perfect templates.
