Precise and sturdy
Received the item as a gift – what a great surprise. I've owned/built several versions of router tables. All were lacking the precision I needed. The Jessem Mast-R-Lift Excel II components are very precise and superbly made. Assembly takes time – be certain to read the supplement to the assembly instructions. The online manuals have a bit better images that can be enlarged for clarity and ease of assembly. I also purchased the Clear Cut Stock Guides, since the tablesaw version is the best I've used thus far. Once assembly was complete, all worked perfectly. When I used to work for a living, one part of my profession was machining. I can appreciate the engineering and superb fit/finish of this system. Much better than my old router table whose collet/bit would shift a little each time the lock was engaged. I may consider making a micro adjustment for the fence or adapting a Woodpeckers micro adjust fence. Given Jessem's innovation and design, maybe it won't be long before they offer one.
Love it with one exception
A big upgrade from my old bench top router table with no lift. I read and spoke to as many different sources as I could before deciding on this purchase. All in all I am extremely happy with the lift and the table top. They went together beautifully and worked great from the beginning. However, I had four of the threaded inserts on the table legs that were so fouled you could not get the bolts started. When I tried to tap them out they broke out. I ended up installing regular nuts and bolts through the holes to get the table ready. Very tedious. After getting the table together, though, it is very stable and perfect for my shop. Overall I am extremely pleased with the purchase. Would be great if Jessem would correct the problem with the threaded inserts as I am not the only reviewer to have this problem.
I would never buy this product
The directions to install the fence are the worst I have ever seen. They make absolutely no sense. The thing takes either an engineer or the people at the factory to understand it. If I had it to do over I would not buy the system. There are blogs etc. to back up my comments. No help from customer service, no help videos, no online directions and a printed useless book.
Lacks Quality Control
I spent considerable time reading reviews etc, like most folks. Generally I really like the table and the adjustment features. A few things that I was disapointed in caused me rto grade it low. I really found the instructions clear. As I have a smaller shop I wanded to install the table on casters. As i assembled the table three of the steel plugs that the the threaded inserts are in fell out. They are welded in. I thought that once it was upright no problem.. Once you add 3.5 inches tho the height of the 36 inch table the table is too high for mt 5-10 stature. So off with the wheels. I glued on carpet glides. Works ok. Second the spanner wrench that fits the insert doesn't fit. so I increased the size of the holes. Lastly i boufgt the switch that attaches to the table. the lock nut for the wires compression firtting wasn never installed. Not difficult to fix but for about 1200 bucks these folks need to get their house in order. I still live the lift design, and the functioality is great. Featherboard system was well thought out.
jessem router table
the adjustment handle located on the side makes changing bits, set ups ,and adjustments so easy
Good Table - Could be Better
Having worked on a pieced together home built router table for many years, I decide to completely upgrade to a new "total package solution". I read many reviews and and scoured through alot of table specs and wound up choosing the Jessem package. Overall, I'm satisfied but for the price, I think it's lacking in some areas. It came well packed in 3 boxes. Setup instructions were lacking but if you take your time, it's not a problem. Took me about 3 hours from box to power on. Solid table and the Mastr Lift is just awesome. Very easy to adjust router height and a real joy over the one I had (EZ-Lift) My first gripe. The pre-drilled holes in the table top are great an virtually eliminated any assembly mistakes. However, several of the threaded inserts were fouled and made tightening the hex screws impossible. I had to leave 2 out because there was no point stripping them trying to tighten. Fortunately, they were in non-crtical positions. My biggest gripe is the fence system. For a 900 table, I would expect something a little more solid and precise. Something along the lines of the Incra Fence System. Not the case though. The fence is decent and well built but the fence to table mounting tracks leave alot to be desired. Not real smooth and kind of sloppy when trying to postion the fence in relation to the bit. They provide a small bushing you need to install on the left side of the fence rail to help keep it centered is totally a waste. What would make this a 5 star system is a better fence with a precision system designed to accurately adjust the fence and keep it parallel to the the bit. Alot of focus goes into the lifts and making it easy for bit height adjustment and the Mastr-Lift is just superb. But alot of tables/fence system lack in the ability move and accurately adjust the fence while keeping it parallel to the bit and this one misses big time in that department. I also got the table with teh optional power switch - very nice and the digital height adjustment readout- a waste. Overall I am very pleased with the table but with the shortcomings I noted. I'm second guessing my decision little about not going with the Incra System but time will tell. Hope this review proves helpful.
Jess-em complete router table
Great product with somewhat limited set up instructions.
If it works as nice as it looks...
I just received this unit yesterday and have installed the table with stand, Wixey digital readout, and power switch. I have given this a 4 instead of a 5 star for one reason only...I have not had a chance to use it with a router! I have the Porter Cable 7518 being delivered in a couple of days. This is a HUGE upgrade for me from the Ryobi workbench router table. If this works as pretty as it looks, I will not hesitate to give this a 5 star. The lift runs smoothly (without a router obviously) and the digital readout is an accessory that I don't know how I lived without. I have recently obtained other Wixey digital measuring devices and love them all. The installation was time consuming (~3 hours for everything), but went together smoothly. A few of the instruction steps were lacking in detail and well oriented pictures used as a reference, making some of the steps slightly more complicated to figure out. But the instructions are not horrible...I've had to translate worse. I have ordered Total Lock Stop Stand Casters to provide mobility for this unit. I am eager to see how well this works. I will try to update this review after having an opportunity to put this table to work.
