Details

HDF (High-Density Fiberboard) or hardboard is a wood product similar to MDF, but much denser, stronger and harder. HDF is composed of wood fiber extracted from chips and pulped wood waste, formed by glue under immense pressure and heat. When it comes to engineered wood, HDF is a step above MDF and plywood. It is generally denser than plywood and many other wood-based materials. Unlike solid wood, HDF does not crack or warp - even under severe fluctuations in temperature and humidity, completely maintaining the integrity of the finish. HDF offers an affordable, inexpensive option that is just as strong as wood with a similar look and feel. Common uses include high-use furniture, laminate flooring, door skins, and backing panels.

Product Notes:
  • HDF does not have good holding strength when compared to real wood. If being used for furniture items that need to be frequently dismantled or reassembled, it may not be your best choice.
  • HDF cannot come into contact with water, as it will make the fibers swell and damage is very hard to repair. Do not use for outdoor projects.
  • Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.
  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.
  • Cut to size from quality, kiln-dried stock.
  • The grain runs with the longest dimension.
