This system will put a polished razor sharp edge on your knives and tools in just seconds. It is made to be used on any ordinary six inch buffer or bench grinder motor that turns at least 3000 RPMs. THE WHEELS IN THIS KIT ARE EIGHT INCH BY THREE QUARTER INCH WITH A FIVE EIGHTHS INCH ARBOR HOLE. The installed bushing converts them to a one half inch arbor hole. Simply remove the bushings for use on a five eighths arbor. You will need to remove the bench grinder guards, as they are not needed with these paper wheels. You will sharpen many knives before needing to re-surface the grit wheel. The slotted wheel needs to be “dressed” occasionally with 60 grit sandpaper.
Instructions / MSDS
This is without a doubt the fastest, easiest sharpening system I have ever used. I've looked at and even tried several some very expensive systems before but this very modestly priced setup (if you already have a bench grinder) is the best I've ever used.
product as discribed
very easy to use
Works well on carving tools
I found that by turning my grinder around so the top of the wheel is turning away from me it's easier to see what you're doing. I built an enclosure behind the wheel to catch the mess and also prevent a possible safety hazard if you put the chisel on that side. In case you're wondering that's a very old, Black & Decker grinder!
fast, accurate for carving shop
I've used stones, diamond plate, hard stones on a bench grinder, wet stones. This is the best system for fast, razor sharp wood carving chisels I've experienced in 20+ years professional. So simple.
Well worth the $$!!
I use this to keep our Boy Scout Troops' knives & tools sharp. Makes a quick & easy job of what used to take forever and get varying results.
For 6 in grinder less than 3000 RPM
Got this for my 8in/1725 RPM grinder. The package says "intended for use on a 6 inch grinder turning at least 3000 RPM". It would be nice if the product information included this little detail.
Set up was easy although they recommend you not take the wheels on an off the grinder or buffer. I bought a 6" buffer for it and it works great. I only use it for knives right now and I have some mixed feelings about it. I can literally sharpen a knife to razor sharp in 2 minutes. It kinda takes the nostalgia out of sharpening as I used to do it free hand, and it took a while but it was relaxing. Getting a Razor Sharp system is not used without some skill. You still must maintain proper angles by holding the knife at the same angle and spot on each wheel to get a great edge.
Quick & easy
After just a little practice (on in-expensive knives) I was able to bring all of my good wood carving knives, chisels and gouges to razor sharp. One draw back: Grinders turn TOWARD you and I don't like sharpening with the cutting edge down so I quickly fixed this by turning around my motor and sharpening from the rear of it instead of the front.
It is what it is!
I paid [$] for it at[...] which was too much.I burnt the grit off the wheel after two tactical knives!Re gritting the wheel is a little hassle.Maybe i'll get used to it by not pressing hard at all.Not good for regrings or aggresive material removal.Guess it's faster than using a stone.
Excellent product, would recommend it.
Excellent to use and simplifies the sharpening task. A must for any shop.
Fine hones the cutting edge
In my opinion these are better than leather for putting a fine edge on knives
A Real Time Saver!
This is an excellent knife sharpener! So far I've sharpened blades with S30V, S110V, VG-10, CTS-XHP, 154CM, and ZDP-189 high alloy steels with these. Most are HRC 60 or higher and known to be notoriously difficult to sharpen. The resulting edge can whittle and pop hairs. Average time per knife is about 2-3 minutes, though I like to use the slotted wheel a little longer to put a mirror finish on the entire edge. I've sharpened every knife in my kitchen in about 15 minutes, and all of them went from dull and chipped to razor sharp. I've even tried diamond bench stones, but this is far faster and much more cost effective(diamonds will break off from the nickel plate and need to be replaced). Instead of making time in your day to sharpen 2 or 3 knives, you'll be looking for dull knives in your house to sharpen.
Very fast and sharp
I've used stones for many years. I make knives, or assemble knives from blanks as well as just being a knife collector. So, I have a high degree of edge sensitivity and awareness. I have natural stones, ceramic stones, synthetic and Japanese water stones. I prefer a razor edge for all uses regardless of bevel angle and believe that a razor edge, or at least the absence of jagged or saw-toothed edges holds longer and better than rough sharpening. So for years I've patiently worked the stones through the required steps to achieve that "stropped razor" edge. It requires quite a bit of skill and hours of patient work to get and maintain those edges with stones. Since my wife is a chef and I am happily charged with maintaining her damascus steel Japanese knives to perfection, the time commitment has been pretty significant. This Razor Sharp System has changed that completely. In less than a minute per knife I can get a razor edge that is better than all my previous hard stone-work and it's easy. Even problem knives, with a hardness rating too high to be practical are quite simple and fast to sharpen. The learning curve was about 10 minutes to get used to the wheels and angles and even with the added cost of a dedicated buffer/grinder the expense is less than the cost of a medium quality Japanese water stone. I highly recommend this product for those like me who find the razor edge to be the minimum acceptable blade sharpness.
This product quickly and easily sharpens tools and knives. Simply make a single pass over the coarse wheel and then flip the tool over and make another pass. Repeat. Then two sets of passes on each side on the polishing wheel anda very dull of blunted tool will be razor hair splitting sharp. Worth every penny!
the gritted wheel does not work well on lathe tools....
