Tired of your hand planes delivering more frustration than shavings? If so, this class is for you. We will cover set up and basic techniques for hand planes, including lapping, set-up, and use. Discussion will also consist of the different types and use of planes available. All participants will leave ready to take the next step into woodworking. Bring a hand plane along with a sharpened iron to class for tune-up & setup. Class may run longer depending on questions and student interaction.

Beginning Finishing

Frustrated by wood finishing? Need to improve your finishing skills? In this class we will cover the basics of surface preparation, and application of sealers and topcoats. Each student will prepare sample boards, and hand apply several home workshop friendly finishes, while learning about the process of wood finishing. This class is also the pre-requisite for other classes in wood finishing.

Curious about refinishing or upcycling older furniture? Then this overview class is for you. Bob will discuss current products and methods, to repair, refinish or change the appearance of your favorite piece of furniture, or that thrift store finds. We will cover stripping methods, repair of existing finishes and color-over procedures. Common finish problems and the solutions will also be covered.
