Woodturning: A Live Edge Bowl

This is one of our more advanced bowl turning classes. We will discuss, in detail, how to harvest your own wood along with best practices in logging, storing and understanding where the bowl and platter blanks are in the log. You will learn advanced tool techniques, how to keep the bark on the blank using CA adhesives, elements of design, form and function and different bowl mounting techniques. You will also learn how to keeping the wings of the bowl the same thickness and how to keep the wings aligned with each other. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, dust mask, face shield, notebook, 1/2in and 3/8in bowl gouge, round scraper, parting tool. Woodturning: Ice Cream Scoop

Turn your very own custom wood-handled ice cream scoop in this hands-on class! The instructor will take you step-by-step through this fun project. Once you master the fundamentals of small project turning, there are lots of other small project kits you could try. Tools provided by the instructor include a sharp 1/2in spindle gouge and a sharp 3/16in parting tool. You may bring your own if you desire. Each student must pre-purchase an ice cream scoop project kit from the store before the start of c lass along with their own safety glasses and hearing protection.

CNC I - An Introduction

If you have ever wanted to learn more about CNC machines then this is the class for you. This lecture class utilizes the Shark CNC Machine and VCarve Software. The instructor will start with the basics; how to set up a Shark CNC machine, what the display commands mean, and VCarve software setup. You will learn how to use the VCarve software including setting the work piece size and understanding the basic Icons. You will learn about designing objects, creating toolpaths, and saving your work. Each student is responsible for supplying their own personal laptop loaded with VCarve Pro Trial. Download VCarve Pro Trial at vectric.com/free-trial/vcarve-pro. This is a lecture class. The CNC machine will not be used during this class.
