This intense, Full Day, class will cover the basics of turning and allow for ample time spent with hands on tools. From lathe safety to choosing the appropriate turning tool, your instructor will guide you through the proper techniques and procedures needed to produce beautifully turned works of art. With over 20 years of experience teaching, the instructor will carefully guide students through the completion of several projects meant to help recall the skills learned and apply them to future projects at home. This class will walk students through making a crosscutting sled, using fixtures like a mortise and tenoning jig, creating jigs for cutting coves and compound angles, and much more. Beginning Kumiko

It may come as a surprise to most, but there is beauty in geometry. Kumiko is the Japanese technique of assembling wooden pieces, without the use of nails, into carefully laid out patterns resulting in beautiful geometric art. Students will learn to fit a pre-planned pattern together using hand tools such as a block plane, saw, gauging block, and chisel. At the end of the class, students will have learned the basics in the art of Kumiko and go home with coasters showing off their new skill.
