This intense, Full Day, class will cover the basics of turning and allow for ample time spent with hands on tools. From lathe safety to choosing the appropriate turning tool, your instructor will guide you through the proper techniques and procedures needed to produce beautifully turned works of art. With over 20 years of experience teaching, the instructor will carefully guide students through the completion of several projects meant to help recall the skills learned and apply them to future projects at home. Table Saw 101

Table saws can be intimidating. As long as one maintains a healthy respect for its power, a table saw will quickly become the workhorse of a shop. This 4 hour class will focus on table saw safety, setup, use and maintenance. Students will learn about the different types of table saws, saw blades, how to utilize the fence and miter gauge for ripping, cross cutting and angle cuts. Students will apply the knowledge and techniques learned by practicing with sheet goods and lumber of all sizes. Upon completion of this class, students can expect to have a comfortable understanding of table saw safety, function and application. Custom Knife Making

with Cary Suggs

Learn to make your own custom knife. Craft a handmade handle to fit a pre-made fixed blade, spear point, knife blank (item# 148362). Students will learn how to create a jig to secure the workpiece in order to cut, shape, glue and pin their custom handle to the knife blank. Once the handle is set, students will learn finishing techniques appropriate for protecting the knife handle. Tools used: bandsaw and belt/disc sander.
