Woodturning: Make A Harry Potter Wand

Join us in creating a Harry Potter wand. This is a spindle turning class but with a Magical Twist. In this fun class, you will also learn the basics of woodturning, turning a square block into a round spindle, while adding creative coves and beads. You will learn the proper techniques for using basic turning tools, gouges and parting tools. Each student is responsible for supplying their own spindle gouge, parting tool, eye protection or face shield and a dust mask.

CNC III - Importing Pictures

This is the third class offered in our CNC curriculum. In this class you will learn how to import a picture into the VCarve software. This lecture class utilizes a Next Wave CNC machine and VCarve software. The instructor will go over different project layers, how to import pictures, and how to manipulate the workplace and pictures once they are imported. Power Carving: An Introduction

There is more to power carving than most people think. In this demonstration class, the instructor will cover Foredom and Dremel use, along with power carving techniques using angle grinders, reciprocating carvers, die grinders, bandsaws and even stationary belt sanders! They will also cover safety, wood selection and design considerations. From wooden spoons to large sculpture, power carving can do it all! Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses, hearing protection, note pad and pencil.

Bandsaw Boxes

The bandsaw can be one of the most useful tools in your workshop. In one day, the instructor will guide you through the construction of your very own bandsaw box. He will also show you other bandsaw box tricks and techniques as well as cover basic bandsaw set up and how to keep your saw running its best. These boxes make great gifts and after this fun and informative class, you'll be able to make as many as you want! Each student is responsible for supplying their own dust mask, safety glasses or face shield, hearing protection, pencil and notebook. All other class materials will be provided by the instructor.

Relief Carving - Advanced

Relief carving has been a part of woodworking for centuries and all woodworkers can improve their carving skills in this advanced class. The instructor will focus on classic relief patterns like shells, acanthus leafage, and scrolls. Students will work on several different patterns that each require different techniques and tricks to complete. The instructor will also cover tool care and sharpening. Each student is responsible for supplying their own carving mallet and safety glasses. The instructor will try to provide the necessary tools but if you own a set of carving tools, please bring them.

Woodturning: A Live Edge Bowl

This is one of our more advanced bowl turning classes. We will discuss, in detail, how to harvest your own wood along with best practices in logging, storing and understanding where the bowl and platter blanks are in the log. You will learn advanced tool techniques, how to keep the bark on the blank using CA adhesives, elements of design, form and function and different bowl mounting techniques. You will also learn how to keeping the wings of the bowl the same thickness and how to keep the wings aligned with each other. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, dust mask, face shield, notebook, 1/2in and 3/8in bowl gouge, round scraper, parting tool. Woodturning: Ice Cream Scoop

Turn your very own custom wood-handled ice cream scoop in this hands-on class! The instructor will take you step-by-step through this fun project. Once you master the fundamentals of small project turning, there are lots of other small project kits you could try. If you have ever wanted to learn more about CNC machines then this is the class for you. This lecture class utilizes the Shark CNC Machine and VCarve Software. The instructor will start with the basics; how to set up a Shark CNC machine, what the display commands mean, and VCarve software setup. You will learn how to use the VCarve software including setting the work piece size and understanding the basic Icons. You will learn about designing objects, creating toolpaths, and saving your work. Each student is responsible for supplying their own personal laptop loaded with VCarve Pro Trial. Hand Cut Dovetails - Course 1

The topic of this hands-on class is the most fundamental of all woodworking joints: The "Through Dovetail". Students will learn the basics of dovetail layout as well as basic saw and chisel control as we practice cutting many dovetails. Safety and tool selection will be discussed. A handout is provided detailing all of the steps covered in the class as well as some suggested practical exercises to complete as "next steps" to guide your practice. Each student is responsible for supplying their own dovetail saw (western or Japanese), sharp 1/2in and 1/4in chisels, mallet, marking knife, dovetail marker, pencil, marking gauge, fret saw or coping saw, eye protection, pocket knife and a pair of dividers.

Cabinetry 2: Building Stile & Rail Doors

In this class, you'll learn to make stile and rail cabinet doors. Students will take home their completed doors. As in most cabinet making, the table saw and router table are the main tools used for door construction. Furniture Building 101 - 3-Legged Sitting Stool

Build your very own 3-legged sitting stool in this furniture building class. You will learn the basic techniques needed for building more complex furniture, including tables and chairs. You will be introduced to "rake & splay", sight lines, tapered through tenons, blind tenons, and wedged joints. Each student is responsible for supplying their own bench planes (#3 or #4 & a #5), mallet, 4” bevel gauge, sanding block, 8” compass, cross cut saw, safety glasses and hearing protection. CNC IV - Making a Part from Scratch

This is the fourth class offered in our CNC curriculum. In this class you will learn how to make a working part from scratch using a simple design. Woodburning - Basics

Would you like to learn how to use a woodburning pen and the basics of pyrography? This class will walk you through the basics such as; types of tools, transferring an image to your project piece, basic art techniques, adding color, and how to finish. Woodworking: Picture Frame

Photo memories are a great way to share special family events. Why not showcase them around your home in a picture frame you made? Join us for a day in the workshop and learn how to safely and creatively, design and build an 8in x 11in picture frame. After this class you will be able to create and build a variety of picture frames at home for your other photo memories. Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask, pencil, notebook, and tape measure. No open toed shoes will be allowed.

Cabinetry 1: Building A Carcass & Face Frame

The first step in building cabinets is constructing the "box" or carcass. In this, hands-on, class you will learn the proper techniques to create a strong and durable cabinet carcass. Joinery and assembly techniques for most cabinet applications will be discussed. The Kreg Jig will be demonstrated and used for the face frame assembly. Each student is responsible for supplying their own tape measure, steel rule, adjustable square, pencils or other marking device, notebook, safety glasses and hearing protection.

Sharpening For Wood Turners

Wednesday, July 23, 1:30 PM - 4 PM

The instructor will show you how to sharpen your turning tools in this hands-on class. Methods covered will include diamond stones and the Wolverine jig system on a slow-speed grinder. Please bring a dull turning tool to the class and it will leave with a ready to turn edge. Each student is responsible for supplying their own one (but no more than one) dull turning tool, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

An American Classic: The Adirondack Chair

In this hands on class, students of any skill level will learn the ins and outs of knife making! With a set of wooden knife scales and knife kit of your choosing, each student will create their own custom knife to take home. The instructor will cover how to attach the scales to your knife blank, shaping, sanding and the final finishing. Wood is all around us in the form of trees that are often cut down for various reasons. In this lecture/demonstration class, the instructor will teach students to process salvaged wood into lumber. They will discuss and demonstrate techniques like proper processing of raw or "green" wood, storing and drying, use of chainsaws and home shop equipment for lumber making and other topics so you can cut your own lumber! If you have ever wanted to learn more about CNC machines then this is the class for you. This lecture class utilizes the Shark CNC Machine and VCarve Software. The instructor will start with the basics; how to set up a Shark CNC machine, what the display commands mean, and VCarve software setup. You will learn how to use the VCarve software including setting the work piece size and understanding the basic Icons. You will learn about designing objects, creating toolpaths, and saving your work. Each student is responsible for supplying their own personal laptop loaded with VCarve Pro Trial. Hand Cut Dovetails - Course 2

Course 2 is a hands-on class where students will learn the most beautiful and useful form of dovetail joinery: The: "Half Blind Dovetail". You will cut many dovetails and learn several time-saving shortcuts to achieve beautiful results. Each student is responsible for supplying their own dovetail saw (western or Japanese), sharp chisels (1/2in, 1/4in), mallet, marking knife, dovetail marker, pencil, marking gauge, fret saw or coping saw, 1 pair of dividers, pocket knife and eye protection.

Cabinetry 1: Building A Carcass & Face Frame

The first step in building cabinets is constructing the "box" or carcass. In this, hands-on, class you will learn the proper techniques to create a strong and durable cabinet carcass. Joinery and assembly techniques for most cabinet applications will be discussed. The Kreg Jig will be demonstrated and used for the face frame assembly. Each student is responsible for supplying their own tape measure, steel rule, adjustable square, pencils or other marking device, notebook, safety glasses and hearing protection.

Wood Finishing: An Introduction

Sunday, September 14, 9:30 AM - 12 PM

In this demonstration class, the instructor will cover sealers, stains, dyes, and hand applied finishes. They will focus on various types of topcoats both water borne and solvent based, as well as some spray finishes. Proper sanding techniques will also be addressed. Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses, hearing protection, notebook, and pencil.

Woodturning: A Live Edge Bowl

Saturday, September 20, 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM

This is one of our more advanced bowl turning classes. We will discuss, in detail, how to harvest your own wood along with best practices in logging, storing and understanding where the bowl and platter blanks are in the log. You will learn advanced tool techniques, how to keep the bark on the blank using CA adhesives, elements of design, form and function and different bowl mounting techniques. You will also learn how to keeping the wings of the bowl the same thickness and how to keep the wings aligned with each other. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, dust mask, face shield, notebook, 1/2in and 3/8in bowl gouge, round scraper, parting tool. Router - Basics

Routers can be intimidating. In this hands-on class, students will learn how to safely use this versatile tool for creating decorative edges, cutting grooves and dadoes, and template routing among other techniques. Bit selection and router accessories will also be covered. Each student is responsible for supplying their own router, any router bits you own, hearing protection and safety glasses.

CNC III - Importing Pictures

This is the third class offered in our CNC curriculum. In this class you will learn how to import a picture into the VCarve software. This lecture class utilizes a Next Wave CNC machine and VCarve software. The instructor will go over different project layers, how to import pictures, and how to manipulate the workplace and pictures once they are imported. Each student is responsible for supplying their own personal laptop loaded with VCarve Pro Trial. Download VCarve Pro Trial at vectric.com/free-trial/vcarve-pro. This is a lecture class. Students will not create any physical projects. The projects made in your VCarve program are saved and can be used to make the project on your own.

Jointers, Planers, & Drum Sanders - Basics

In this mostly demonstration/lecture class, students will learn how to use jointers, planers & drum sanders safely and properly. You will learn how to correctly machine rough sawn wood into surfaced lumber. Topics will include setting knives, infeed and outfeed table height, proper feed direction, and reading grain. Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses, hearing protection, notebook, and pencil.

Marquetry & Inlay: An Introduction

Saturday, September 27, 9:30 AM - 12 PM

Marquetry is the art of creating pictures with wood veneers. The pieces of veneer are chosen for color, grain and figure. Inlay is similar, except thicker wood is used. In this demonstration class, the instructor will show various techniques for marquetry and inlay, as well as go over the tools, supplies, materials, and sources to help get students started doing their own work. Each student is responsible for supplying their own paper and pencil.

Woodturning: Hollow Form

Sunday, September 28, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Take your turning to the next level! Learn the art of turning a hollow form. You will safely shape an elegant vessel utilizing specialized tools and techniques. The instructor will cover everything from wood selection and form design to tool selection and give you the skills you need to turn a hollow form. Students must provide their own hollowing tools similar to Easy Wood Tools Hollower #2 and #3. Students are required to bring both hollowing tools to this class. Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses or face shield and hearing protection.
