Each student will sit in front of VCarve workstation, learning at a pace that is comfortable to them. In this class we will build a small tool tote using simple joinery. Pocket holes, dadoes and finger joints all will be discussed. Tools used will include the table saw, drill press, band saw and router table. Each student will have the opportunity to use the tools and practice the skills demonstrated. Each student will build the components needed to assemble a small tool tote.
This class will show you how to sharpen a variety of turning tools using two different systems. Colin Chalmers will show you how he hand sharpens tools his way and will also demonstrate the Wolverine grinding system. Setting up for various tool profiles will be demonstrated for the most commonly used tools. Please remember to bring your tools to class.

We will start with an introduction to the process of wood burning and review samples of artwork created by the instructor. We’ll introduce the wood burner: show it being used, heat settings, different nibs and what patterns they make. Students will create their own project on a 7" to 9" basswood round by sketching a design on the wood, burning the outline and adding details using shading and other techniques and the project will ready to finish and display.
