Step-by-Step CNC & Resin Guide
Join Logan as he walks you through the process of making a custom wood and resin sign with LED backlighting.
CNC machining, traditional woodworking, resin pouring, and LED lighting make this project a great way to combine several skills into one project, even if you are just getting started.
Making any DIY or woodworking project can be overwhelming, especially when you add resin and LED lights. This beginner-friendly project breaks the process into easy steps so you can follow along.
Many of the steps involved can be completed in shops of all sizes. You don’t need to have a Powermatic bandsaw, Laguna planer, or a CNC for carving wood like the ones in the Woodcraft shop. All these tools are great to have, but they can be replaced by using traditional hand tools or whatever you have in your workshop to help you complete building this project.
In fact, you don’t even need access to a pressure pot for resin to complete this project. Logan provides several methods to avoid the formation of bubbles in your resin pour. Most of them involve taking a little more time and care while pouring resin into the wood, but one does involve fire.
The finished resin sign is roughly 1/8” thick, and our design ended up at around 18” long. Of course, these measurements can easily be changed to fit the shape, size, and overall design of your project. Just like with most woodworking and DIY projects, there are limitless combinations of modifications you can make to create your own.
Remember, you don’t have to do this alone. Let us know what questions you have, or any topics you’d like to see a video about. Plus, the fine folks at your local Woodcraft store are always there to answer any questions you have about your woodworking projects.
