Building a Bookshelf

Build Your Own Bookshelf! Calling all young builders and book lovers! In this hands-on class, kids will learn how to design and build their very own mini bookshelf. With guidance from friendly instructors, children will use simple tools, measure and cut wood (with adult help), and assemble their creation step by step. Along the way, they'll learn basic woodworking skills, teamwork, and safety tips- all while having fun! At the end of the class, each child will take home a sturdy bookshelf perfect for holding their favorite stories and treasures. Skills learned: - Measuring and marking - Safe use of basic tools - Following building instructions - Instructions for finishing and decorating All materials and safety gear provided. No experience necessary-just imagination and enthusiasm!

Turn a Platter or Bowl

Friday, August 22, 9 AM - 5 PM

(Must have completed Intro To Turning or have experience using HHS tools.) Turned wooden bowls or platters can make your dining experience truly memorable or create a display piece to show off your talent. This class will focus on using basic turning tools and techniques to create these wooden bowls and platters. Wood selection and mounting for grain orientation to get the most out of each piece will be discussed along with selection of proper tools. Students will turn a bowl using a tenon in a chuck system and Cole jaws to finish the bottom of the bowl. Students who choose to turn a platter will use a recess and expanding chuck system to mount their blank. Please don't wear sweater type material. Wood chips stick to this and we don't want you to ruin clothing. Wear something you don't mind getting dusty. Bring eye protection and respiratory protection if you have it or safety glasses will be provided.

Cabinet Carcass Making

Saturday, August 23, 9 AM - 5 PM

This class will unravel the secrets of base cabinet construction. It will include design, face frame versus frameless construction and adding drawers and doors. During the class, students will collectively make one base cabinet from scratch.
