The last step in furniture making has been the most difficult of all. Finishing frustrates the most experienced woodworker. This four night course will take the mystery out of finishing. Topics include: sanding, surface prep, filling grain, staining, sealing, top coating, rubbing out, and wet sand polishing.

Intro to Woodturning

Saturday, February 7, 2026, 9 AM - 4 PM

Want to learn the basics of wood turning or refresh your skills from Jr. High shop class? This class covers the basics, including shop and lathe safety, tool identification and selection, mounting wood to the lathe and wood selection. In the first half of the class students will Learn safety, basic tools, how to cut with each basic tool and tool selection. In the second half they will work on a small project determined by the instructor. Skills learned in this class will prepare students for our more advanced classes. Please don't wear sweater type material. Wood chips stick to this and we don't want you to ruin clothing. Wear something you don't mind getting dusty. Bring eye protection and respiratory protection if you have it or safety glasses will be provided.

Beginning Woodworking

Saturday, February 7, 2026, 9 AM - 5 PM

New to the shop environment? Not comfortable around machinery? Spend a day getting to know your way around with one of our experienced instructors. Students will learn the purpose and safe operations of the primary stationary tools such as the tablesaw, jointer, planer, bandsaw and drill press. This hands on class will give you a taste of how these tools take raw material and turn it into finished projects. To the beginner woodworker, this class will pave the way for participation in Woodworking Fundamentals 1.
