Welcome to the world of hand tools, necessary for furniture makers. A mix of lecture and hands on. A chance to learn about and try them out. Sections are: Marking and layout tools, Chisels, Gouges & carving tools, Hand planes, Scrapers, Hand saws, Files & rasps. Be prepared to give up some of your power tools and switch over to hand tools, where you become one with wood.
Want to get started in woodworking, but do not have someone to show you how, or the chance to try? We will cover woodworking safety; wood as a material; measuring and marking; using and selecting tools for sawing, boring and abrading wood, including hand tools, track saws, table saws, miter saw, band saw, drills, routers, and sanders. Each student will get hands on time with tools and should feel confident to start woodworking at home.
This class will cover the different types of router tables and fences available. We will also cover when to use a router table versus handheld operations, as well as, the bits that only should be used in a router table. Each student will have the opportunity to practice edge routing, pattern routing, and making a simple molding on a router table.
