What a perfect gift - a bowl that you make yourself and fill with snacks. We will show you how to shape and turn a lovely bowl. Learn the dynamics of wood shrinkage; the parts, proper use, differences, advantages and disadvantages of the fingernail versus regular grind bowl gouge; methods of mounting material to the lathe, safety issues, turning speed, and the safe use of a bowl gouge.
If you haven't realized it yet, you soon will. Your projects will only be as square and true as the lumber you start with. This hands on class will show you the techniques you need to turn that rough cut lumber into beautiful ready to use lumber. CLS230
Woodcraft's Shop Safety class is an introduction to safe shop practices. As this class is a prerequisite to other classes offered by Woodcraft, the instructor will discuss general safety concerns as they relate to the equipment located in our shop. It also presents the student an opportunity to become familiar with Woodcraft's particular machinery. While your own equipment will most likely be different than ours, the safety practices learned will be easily applied in your shop. Hands on experience will be gained on some of the most commonly used equipment in the shop. In this new and expanded version of the class, we will also be discussing the different types of safety equipment available for shop use, from safety glasses to first aid kits. Hearing and eye protection and closed toe shoes are required.
