Making Fresh Milk Paint

If you would like to say no to micro plastics and remove acrylic paint from your finishing cabinet for good, or you are just interested in learning how to make traditional milk paint, please join us for this class. In this class students will learn how to make their own high quality milk paint using 4 simple ingredients: quark (curd cheese), hydrated lime, pigment, and water. Fresh casein paint has many benefits: -It's safe to use -Offers excellent adhesion -Contains no plastics and generates zero harmful fumes -Highly economical, when compared to commercial paints -Customizable by blending various pigments -Durable and hard wearing -Ages beautifully, developing a patina over time -Dries quickly. Students will leave with a copy of Nick Kroll’s book Make Fresh Milk Paint, half a pint of fresh milk paint, and enough pigment and lime to make another half pint at home. Safety glasses/goggles are required. If students have a small item they would like to paint, they are welcome to bring it to class.

Hand Cut Mortise and Tenon

Jim is our resident hand tool expert. He will show the students how to layout and cut mortise and tenon joints using hand tools. The process is not as hard as one would think, and the students will go home with the confidence to create joinery the old fashion way, by hand. All tools are provided by the instructor.
