This course will turn a beginner or intermediate student into a safe and experienced wood turner. 4 classes at one bundled value price! Day 1 – Learn to sharpen a spindle gouge, bowl gouge and parting tool. Learn the four basic cuts in woodturning. The last hour will be turning a honey dipper. Day 2 – Learn to sharpen a skew and a spindle roughing gouge plus the tools from Day 1. Practice the four basic cuts and make a small wooden mallet. Day 3 - Learn to sharpen a scraper and tools from previous days. Practice the four basic cuts and turn a small lidded box. Day 4 – Review sharpening tools with focus on bowl gouges. Practice the four basic cuts and turn a small bowl.

Scroll Saw Intro 101

Let Tim Gilman, with more than a decade of scroll saw experience designing patterns, writing articles & reviews for Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine (www.scrollsawer.com), help you start scrolling or improve your scrolling. This introductory hands on class will begin with an overview of how the scroll saw functions & the variety of projects you can complete with a scroll saw. Students will be shown the different types of blades & learn when they should be used. Students will be shown how to attach patterns & practice attaching patterns. Tim will guide students through the beginning lessons of Fox Chapel Publishing's Scroll Saw Workbook, the same lessons that Tim followed to learn the scroll saw many years ago! At the end of the class you'll have the option to purchase this book. The lessons in this book build your skill as you make cuts to create scrollwork that you can take home! Our classroom has enough scroll saws to ensure there will be a dedicated scroll for each student to use during the class to maximize their time practicing scrolling. With a class size limited to 5 students you'll get direct instruction & all your questions answered! You'll learn lots of tips & tricks such as squaring the blade, proper blade tension, hand placement & speed selection. Custom Name/Word Puzzle With The Scroll Saw

Let Tim Gilman, with more than a decade of scroll saw experience designing patterns, writing articles & reviews for Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine (www.scrollsawer.com), help you make a standup puzzle of any word or name. The instructor will provide you with "tiles" of letters that can be combined to form a word or name & a template for adding puzzle pieces that join the letters together. Then you will attach this pattern to the wood & cut the wood with a scroll saw. Then you'll have time to sand & dye the puzzle. You'll leave with a set of the tiles & the puzzle piece template so you'll be able to make more puzzles on your own! If you have limited scroll saw experience, consider taking "Scroll Saw Intro 101". Scroll Saw Intro 101 is typically offered the morning before this class.
