This unique pencil kit is equally at home in the shop or an artist's sketch kit. The single tube kit is extremely easy to turn and produces an attractive, different, and very functional pencil. The extra thick (5.66 mm, about 7/32" D x 3-1/8" L) HB round lead resists breaking and is held firmly in place by a four-jaw collet at the bottom of the pencil mechanism. Just push on the spring-loaded top of the pencil and the collet opens so you can advance or retract the lead to the desired length. The top, when unscrewed from the pencil, features an internal sharpener to renew the point. When combined with the 4B soft lead (sold separately), any artist would love to add this pencil to their sketch kit.

15/32 is too loose
29/64 is a much better fit

Good Looking kit but use 29/64 drill bit for tighter fit for sleeve .
Just made this kit, started with the mosaic acrylic blank from woodcraft (which now is garbage unless i can fill it in with some type of cast-able acrylic. , I followed instructions and the 15/32 drill bit I found to be way to sloppy! So either my bits from WoodCraft are slightly oversized.. or when you try this kit compare the the sleeve with your bits. I used a 29/64 and got a far better fit, loose enough for medium to thick CA or epoxy but tight enough to not use $5-10 worth of adhesives. Giving the kit a 5 Stars, Giving the instructions 3 based on that little tidbit. 4 star average.

Give It A Try
If you use a 3/4" blank make sure the hole is dead center. The ring band that goes on the bottom is already on the mechanism in the kit that I got. I removed it to press it into the blank.

Top Notch
Been looking at this for awhile. My wife urged me to try it. Turned it in KOA wood. Looks great performs even better! Sharpener in the end is a plus. Just bought another one today to make my wife her own.

A PENCIL WORKS FOR ART ON WOOD OR PAPER
VERY WELL CONCEIVED PENCIL KIT...

Great Kit
I wanted a good pencil for the workshop as I hate fighting with carpenter pencils that are flat, saw this and picked it up from the store right away. I really like the weight of this pencil and the led has not failed me yet. Works great in the workshop for marking measurements and is a beautiful addition to any workshop. I highly recommend getting this kit and making one for your shop or house.

Artist's like this product
I handed one to an artist friend, he grabbed it, sketched a beautiful tree and asked me if I had a supply of them.

Great Easy Pencil to make
This pencil was easy to make. I tried another typer first and it was very hard and did not turn out good. This one did. It went together easy and works great for marking wood.

Great Shop Pencil!
Great heavy, soft lead pencil. I use it to mark wood in my shop. Leaves a dark, heavy mark without leaving indentions in the wood.

Best artist's pencil ever!
I bought a bunch of these to make as gifts for my Grandchildren and nieces and nephews. All of them are overjoyed. I personalized them all by making the ones for the younger kids a bit more tactile and whimsical. So they share them to experience the difference and one of my nephews has gotten the turning bug and bought some of these too. There are turning lessons in his future. You can buy this off the shelf as a completed pencil from Woodcraft but this is a very easy turning project. I would highly recommend it. PS. Make sure to buy your replacement leads from Woodcraft. They're way too expensive at the office supply stores.
