Too thick for a an older Stanley #5
As others have mentioned, these are too thick for the throat of an older Stanley #5. I am fortunate enough to have a "good" #5 and a "parts" #5. I was able to widen the throat of my "parts" #5 with a file in order to accept this thicker Woodriver blade. The product description should have mentioned this by now. Bigger is not always better.

Replacement Blade for Stanley #5
Purchased this to replace the blade in a newly refurbished Stanley #5. It is about 1/8" thicker and in my case the mouth of the plane needed to be filed to accommodate the added thickness. Also, the old machine screw that attaches the chip breaker to the blade can be used, but it's a tight fit. While I have no doubt that this is a better blade than the original Stanley (it is stronger and definitely a harder grade of tool steel), my first use of it with some figured maple compared to the old blade was not as significantly better as I would have expected (yes, both blades were equally sharp). BTW - if you do decide to open the mouth of your plane to accommodate this blade, my advice would be to use a good square to scribe a line to work to, highlighting it with machinist's black or black marker, use a fine file, go slow and plan on doing a little resurfacing of the sole of your plane (e.g. 220/440/1000) to flatten the burr that will inevitably result from the filing job.

Great Blade for sargent 414c Plane
An outstanding replacement blade for the Sargent 414c jackplane. I originally bought this blade to put in a Stanley N0.4 bench plane but the blade was too thick and would not engage properly with the lateral adjuster catch. I was going to send it back but the thought I should try it in the Sargent Jack plane and it fit perfectly. Also the blade was very easy to sharpen and maintain I highly recommend this blade for any Sargent 414c plane that needs a replacement blade.

Thick Blades
These blades are 1/8" thick and much thicker and stiffer than most Stanley type blades. They are well ground and not to difficult to flatten and sharpen. This is a fairly low cost way to up grade an old plane.
