      Definitely good for beginners.

I"ve already done a little leatherwork, but this makes it a lot easier. The needles are well designed to slide past each other and through leather. The punch tool easily makes evenly-spaced holes, and the riveting tools work well. I made a knife sheath with the kit (using leather I already had) and these tools really helped. Other comments: There's PLENTY of waxed thread for several projects, but only a few rivets and a few snaps, so if you continue to do leatherworking, you'll want to get more. Also, be aware that you'll need a hammer and some kind of wooden base to hammer the punch tool into. Whatever else you do, make sure you have a place to put the needles when you're not using them or they'll run away and hide - I use an old pill vial. I haven't yet used the leather, but it looks pretty good quality. Just not a huge amount of it.

      Nice kit for beginners.

I've done a little leatherworking before, but having the right tools makes it far easier. With this kit I easily made a sheath for a knife I made (Spearpoint, also from Woodcraft). I didn't use the included leather, but it seems to be good quality. Note: there are a lot of small parts in this kit. Get a box with a latchable lid. And especially, put the needles into a medicine bottle or they'll run and hide.

      Good basic tools

I am pretty new to leather working. This is a good intro - I've used everything in this kit so far except the leather (I had some other that I used), and it all worked well. Stitching was easy, setting snaps and rivets worked well. Note that to use the rivet and snap setters and the stitching chisel, you'll need a hammer and something firm to hammer on. I'd suggest that besides these tools, you get a v-carving tool and a very sharp knife to cut the leather. Overall, a nice set. I'll use it a lot in the future to make knife sheaths and other leather items.
