This means the stone is thinner and lighter which translates into it’s easier to take on the road with you. We found this stone to be just the thing for preliminary shaping, beveling chisels and plane blades, sharpening knives, and touching up turning tools. You get what you pay for
I bought one of these when they were on sale for $39.99 last month. At that price, I set my expectations accordingly, but I thought this would be useful for rough work like re-establishing the primary bevel on chisel or plane iron. And that was exactly what I used it for, I re-established the bevel on ONE, plane iron and now this "stone" is as smooth as a baby's bottom. The 400 grit side doesn't cut at all anymore after ONE (yes ONE) SINGLE use. I'm glad I bought it on sale, but wish I hadn't bought it all.

Mine is Flat and It Works Just Fine.
Mine is flat and it works just fine. I'm looking for Woodcraft to put out a 4,000/8,000 grit 10"x3" version. Now, that will make me a [very] "Happy Camper".

Works but don’t expect these stones to be flat.
I have the smaller version of this. Sharpens small bits fine but over the width and length of the bed it’s definitely not flat so must bear in mind when sharpening wide tools.

Good for a while.
I got these stones to start out in woodworking to sharpen chisels and plane irons which did the job for a while but over time they came out of flat. The plates are probably 1/8” thick which is not enough meat to keep them flat with much use. Again they are a good price but not a long term guaranteed solution for sharpening. I just got the trend diamond stone that Rob Cosman uses and it confirmed that my stones were out of flat. The best early investment in woodworking is not better tools but better sharpening so I would go with something more high end if I were you.

Woodriver diamond plate
Not bad for the price. Cuts aggressive at first as all diamond plates do until “broken in”so to speak. Then mellows but still does the job. One bit of advice is use some type of lubricant to carry off the swarf created. Noticed this much more on the “400” side. The little pockets will get gunked up pretty good fairly fast. Other than that it’s a real bargain.
