October is the month for pumpkins, colorful leaves and Halloween costumes.  For many woodworkers, it’s the time of year when the weather cools down and they get back into their workshops.  It’s also the perfect opportunity to create some fabulous “pink” pens in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

    Don't buy it

Read the other reviews on this. The assembly with the tenon doesn't work and the quality is cheap, especially when compared with letter opener kits offered by other companies. Also, if you look at their other letter opener kit, note they require different drill sizes and different bushings.

    Great Project

I picked this up at the Raleigh Durham Woodcraft and being new to pen making didn't realize what I had. After carefully reading the instructions and getting the appropriate bushings I turned the Letter Opener following the details to make sure the item would work well it did and I couldn't be happier. It required work not ordinarily required in pen turning but it was not difficult. Turned out well and this gets 5 stars. Thanks

    Poor instructions

The upper tube requires you make a connector called a tenon or something very confusing. Really disappointed with this aspect. It would have been a good kit if the upper tube had a connector. Oh yes I made the part, but not Happy with the kit overall.

    Easy to turn.

The kit instructions were very straight forward to assemble. You do have to make a small tendon, but that was not an issue for me who has been turning for less that six months. Kit came together nicely. Would buy again.

    Poor instructions and fit

The instructions do not make it clear that you turn off 3/16 tenon down to brass tube after completion to fit the items together. You are advised to finish to your profile then remove wood to make the tenon. This makes the bushing redundant because now your join is no longer a perfect fit. Too much time is wasted second guessing. Poor quality kit at expensive price. The technical staff could do better with instruction and telling China what they want.

pass on this item poor instructions

The product could be good to make if the instructions made sense. You'll need a tender on this piece and you'll have to gusess which bushings to use.
