    Works as Designed, but Fragile

Works as designed, but fragile. Did the job, but the back section cracked (piece came off) in the hand tightened drill chuck. I never had this occur in smaller diameter versions.

    Good thing they're double ended.

Had the full set but broke 3 times with different sizes. Finally tried running it with a light battery drill in REVERSE! and easily took out several screws without a problem even though the wood was well aged mahogany on a boat. You can easily get to aggressive with this and break it. Would like it to be a little less brittle or softer steel where it might bend instead of breaking.

    Broke within 5 minutes

Conceptually very good idea. I had read the instructions and reviews here about this thing potentially breaking so was extra careful. I didn't screw it in to tight as to crush it ... I didn't drill too fast ... but still think broke off within 5 minutes. If you have very, very soft wood, maybe this will work for you. It breaks very easy though.

    Brittle Metal - be careful

I had a #6 screw that was broken off 3/4 oak and hoped that this would be the ticket to remove it and minimize the finishing process. The screw extractor simply just broke into three pieces within about 14 seconds of drilling. I was still able to remove the screw but so much for a nice tight fit for a 3/8 dowel. I was required to chip away the 1/4 inch of wood that was cut and then use needle nose pliers to unscrew the screw. If I knew it would last 14 seconds at $13.99 ($1 per second) and end up with a loose fitting 3/8 hole I would have just used a 1/2" hole bit (which I already have) and used a 1/2" dowel

    Searched everywhere for this

Use this in boat building application to remove broken fastenings. Have long wanted a small hole saw like this. More length would be better though.

    Brittle metal

The item is only 2" long and the length is quickly consumed by properly setting it in a chuck. This item would undoubtedly work wonders utilized as shown in the picture. I unfortunately had a deep recessed screw to remove. Heading the warnings about heat and burning the wood, I took my time and slowly drilled in and stopping for all parts to cool. It was at the last part where I hit a knot and the extractor just simply broke. The metal it is made out of is brittle - I only assume they did not heat temper it for strength. Now I had a screw and a extractor stuck in the wood. I would recommend this to a friend - with a very big WARNING.

    Useful but needs care

Comes with detailed instructions about how not to squash it in a drill chuck. But better solution would be a separate insertable solid metal core (not necessarily steel, could be light alloy). (Of course I made up my own with an old bolt of matching size.)
