One Year and Still Works Greart

I upgraded to a Wynn Environmental Canister Filter and am glad I did. This greatly increased the filtering performance (zero dust in my shop) and suction over what you will expect from a bag filter. I keep my unit stationary and connect it to one machine at a time. For my needs, this works well. Eventually, I would like to run a 5" duct down the middle of my shop with 4" drops...we will see how this unit works with a professional duct system. Overall, I am very pleased with the unit and would recommend it to anyone with a small shop.

        Good value

This unit is a bit noisy but not as bad as many. I get plenty of suction for my wood turning and for my band saw. I use a gate and only one open at a time. My band saw and my lathe each use a 4" hose. I also have ordered a 1 micron filter bag. This won't be as good and efficient as a canister but they are reasonable inexpensive so you cannot go wrong. As others have said the bag support isn't particularly sturdy but this unit moves around easily.

        Works very good

I use this dust collector in my wood shop on a daily bases. I have a 25' hose so I can reach to most points in my shop. I've only had it for a few weeks but so far I haven't found anything wrong with it. The instructions were easy to read I had no problem putting it together. I did havea small problem with the hardware seems they can't pack enough screws.

        Good value on sale

I am a professional remodeler and will be using this in my shop. I have a table saw, jointer, planer, etc. and plan to add a cyclone in front of this unit. The instructions were a bit misleading on assembly steps, but with my background I had no trouble working around it. One example is in mounting the motor: the instructions don't tell you to use a washer on the head of the bolt from underneath, but it's necessary to keep the head from pulling through the slots of the bracket. To Rikon's credit, they did include enough washers for this! Rikon includes a set of open end wrenches, but some of the nuts and bolts were different than the others, so I had to use a 13mm wrench from my own toolbox. The supports are a bit weak, so don't grab them to move the unit around. I "kick" the base with my foot to move it on my concrete floor with no problem. The bands that hold the bags in place are very thin, and I kinked one while threading it throuh the cloth bag. It won't hurt the performance, but be careful! Also, have a few magnets on hand to install the plastic bag. I used three to temporaraly hold the bag in place while I added the metal strap. Works great! Even with these drawbacks, I think it's a great value and I look forward to using it on a daily basis.

        This thing really has suction!

This could use a handle to push the cart around. I may try to have one made to mount.

        Great Dust Collector

Could easier to empty lower bag. Great machine, just alittle loud. Overall great machine, does very well sucking up wood chips and wood dust.

No buyer's remorse as of yet.

The main purpose of my review is to counter a couple previous reviews. So far my complaints are minimal and nit-picking. Assembly - instructions are not great, but anyone with DIY skills will be fine. Why have a combination of M8-15mm & M8-16mm hex bolts? With a one millimeter difference why bother? Assembly time = 30 minutes. Unit seems solid except for the flimsy bag arms which is typically of all the units at which I looked. Suction - I have not measured the CFM, but with two 4" hoses run to a downdraft table saw collector and a downdraft router table box I could use the unit without gates. Of course closing off one tube increased suction significantly. Sound - This is where I differ with previous reviews. They said it was noisy. I say relative to what? The Jet 2 h.p. is rated 80-85dB. The Powermatic 1.75 h.p. is rated 75-90dB. This unit is rated >78dB @ 3'. I did not find this to be true on my unit. Using my S.P.L. meter I found my unit to be 82dB @ 3' and 80dB @ 10' with one hose connected and one closed off. Although it did not meet the stated ratings, I am surprised at how quite my unit is. One thing which allowed me to pull the trigger on this purchase - Although I have been unable to find a canister filter specific to this unit, I measured the top @ 19.5" diameter which is the same as a couple JDS and General units I measured. I am hopeful in the future I will be able to retrofit the unit with a one micron canister. I definitely consider this unit a good value.

        First impressions

I'm not including a "recommend to a friend - or not" because it really depends on one's space and budget. This fits mine (both), but it's not the very best option. When I get 1) a bigger shop, and 2) wealthier, I'll upgrade.
