Details

Hard Arkansas stones have a grit range of 800-1000 grit and will sharpen and further refine an already sharp edge to a “keen” edge. This Hard Arkansas Multiform Slipstone measures 4" x 2", with a round edge and knife edge that taper from 1/2" to 1/8". It is used by carvers to sharpen and hone V-tools, veiners and gouges, but it can put a keen edge on serrated knives as well. The stone comes in a protective case with a pouch and a small bottle of light mineral oil. Stone can be used with or without lubrication, but we suggest light oil, which will keep the stone’s surface fresh and free from glazing that could potentially diminish the stone’s performance.

RH Preyda Arkansas Stones
RH Preyda’s 100% natural Arkansas stones are made from Novaculite quarried in the Ouachita Mountains, near Hot Springs, Arkansas. The unique cryptocrystalline structure and density are the keys to the stones retaining their effective abrasion characteristics and shapes with what amounts to minimal care.
Arkansas Stones and Grit.
Arkansas stones are graded on hardness and not grit, but grit is an easier concept for most to grasp so a grit equivalent is offered as a comparison to synthetic stones. The grit range of natural stones will vary, so in most cases a range of grit is offered – again as a comparison to synthetic stones.

Product Copy
This Hard Arkansas File Set, with a grit range of 800-1000, features 4 files (triangle, round, square and knife edge slip). These files are perfect for polishing, removing burrs and dressing the insides of small and miniature carving tools. Stones in the set are approximately 4" in length and about 1/4" in width, excepting the slip which is about an inch wide. Stones come in a protective wood storage case. Stones can be used with or without lubrication, but we suggest light oil, which will keep the stones’ surface fresh and free from glazing that could potentially diminish the stones’ performance.
