      My experiments, very interesting!

Okay this is the thing, as you read this review remember... it was 25 bucks AT A RETAIL STORE! So if you just take the stone out of the box, and go to work it is an okay stone, probably on the Japanese whetstone grit rating it will polish your blade to 3-5K tops. Now there are 2 ways to use this, you can scrub your knife and bare down into it, to use it just as another whetstone which will work, but the way I use it I feel yields different results: I first flattened one side of the stone with float glass and loose SiC, to bring up a rough, flat edge. I then lapped the stone with a small DMT coarse, then DMT fine, then just a tad with Xfine. I then burnished the stone with an old chisel lightly and WOOOW! This stone as a mirror like finish on it, and is smooth as heck. So if you do this, try just dribbling some water on the surface, and do light alternating stroke. This will yield a very good polish. If you want to use the scrub method you will dish the stone a bit faster. Soak the stone for 20 minutes if you want to do any real scrubbing/grinding, for just light polishing you can just drip some water on it. Problem is every time you flatten the stone, you have to re condition it, so I don't recommend doing any major grinding with it. I HIGHLY recommend this tone if you have a way to lap it down a little finer than it comes. Try burnishing as well. It can be a great stone but it takes work, not amazing out of the box but... you get a mirror polish for 25 bucks! Could probably hone a razor pretty good too.

Great finishing stone for straight razor

I lapped my straight razor on a Norton 4000 and directly went to the 12k Chinese waterstone. I did a total of 150+ laps on the 12k then my razor gave me the closest shave possible (BBS). The only issue is the huge number of laps needed. Needless to say, I'm happy with my purchase. No more messey pasted strops.

      Fast cutting and haze finish

Very hard stone with 1 perfect side, the other side 1/4in surface layer substrate contained loose aggregates, thus huge scratches (6-15 microns). The good side cut quite fast and yields finished equivalent to around 6-8K (sharp edges - resulted in a haze). My spyderco fine-ceramic stone produced more polish (almost mirror) finishes. My 6 yrs old Kitayama 8K stone produces mirror edge/blade. I hope, Woodcraft would offers CBN (cubic boron nitrite) paste, it would be great for giving a super finish to knives and other wood working tools.

      Clean Polish

This water stone is clean and smooth. Flat and fine. With a steady hand this stone gives a desired polish on any blade. Stone needs to be soaked a little before use. I would recommend this product. Once you buy this stone and use it, you will notice its value. Easy to clean and with a level hand, you can avoid making groves in this stone as its semi-soft.

      Great for finishing razors

Very good finisher for sharpening straight razors. This stone is a very slow cutter, however. A matching slurry stone speeds the cutting process.

      Cheap honing stone that works

Awesome finishing stone. I just started to use straight razors, and wow did this stone make a huge difference! It's hard and smooth. A solid work horse that will probably be around for my kids. Also probably one of the most reasonably priced stones on the market!
