Don't waste your money on this
Recently acquired some old barn lumber 3 X 10 hickory boards. After a couple of the nails broke while removing them, I decided to go pick this up before I plane the boards down. Does not read through 1/2" deep! I held it on the face over a nail in the end of the board which it would not detect a visible nail. I adjusted tuning multiple times.. This is garbage, very surprised Woodcraft has this in their inventory.

Works Great
The first one I received did not work at all so I called the manufacture and they sent me a new no ? asked and I received it in 3 days. The products works like it should and the size makes it easy to find.used to find birdshot, nails and other meatal objects

Not bad for what is
Works great for reclaimed lumber and logs smaller than 4 inches no good for large logs or finding items deep then a couple of inches

Works great
Took it out of the package, put a 9v battery in it and without further fooling around, began to scan for nails in a prize piece of 1" x 20" x 14' old growth pine, from 1860. In about 10 minutes I had found 13 embedded square nails, some broken off and invisible, others hiding just below the surface. I could detect the nails from either side of the board, very easily - both beep and LED blinking. Easy to adjust sensitivity. Didn't get around to tuning it since it worked well out of the box. Very high value for such an inexpensive device. Looks like it's reasonably well made.

A great lil product at a fantastic price
I bought this after I destroyed a bandsaw blade after hitting a nail in a piece of lumber. I would have liked its bigger brother but it was priced a lil to far out of reach. The lil wizard was on sale for [$] and for that price I decided to try it. Once you have it set right it does a great job. I test it first on a piece of lumber with a known nail in it then go to work scanning. It works great and has saved me so far.

Works Well
Had no problem finding buried nails, brads, and even staples.

little wizard metal detector
The wizard finds even small bits of metal. It doesn't sweep a large area, but for occasional us it works fine. The price was right too. Much cheaper that new or resharpened blades.

Save your blades.
Use for reclaimed or new rough sawn wood to protect your blades.

This is an excellent tool.
I use the Little Wizard outside primarily to locate flag pole insert caps.

Acheap tool that WORKS !!
This is one of those hidden treasure deals that you run into every once in a while. At the bargin price, you would not expect much, but this little metal detector is a tool that I am sure I will use over and over again. Anytime sawing, routing, planing or jointing is needed on a used or questionable board that may have metal in it, this tool will come out. I figure if I find one nail before planing a piece of wood, the tool has paid for itself by preventing planer blade dammage. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the small scanning area, but that could also be a blessing as it narrows the area down were the metal is located. All in all I am very impressed that I could find a tool that I know I will be using on a regular basis at a bargin price. I highly suggest this tool.

Works Every Time
This is my second one. I have used the first one for years, and wanted a new one for work.

Find just one screw and worth it!
Find nails, screws, staples or other metal with this detector instead of with your planer, bandsaw or table saw blades!
-
Works great.
Works for finding small nails.
-
Wouldn't detect nail heads
Will detect metal, but does not detect nail heads. Even exposed nail heads.
-
Works well for the price
A little finicky, but seems effective for the price. Be sure to set the fine adjustment screw. I haven't tried it yet on actual wood projects, but just tested it on window casements, etc., with known nail locations.

Not as advertised
I ordered 3 of these. One was defective and the other two couldn't find a screw 1/4" below the surface of a 2x4. I returned all three.
