Sometimes referred to as a 3/4 axe, the Wetterlings Hudson Bay Axe features a pattern that has its roots in French trading axes and with early settlers in the Hudson Bay region. The axe was and still is prized for its light weight and efficient head design, which make it perfect for anything related to camping, such as chopping, limbing, felling small trees and light splitting. The Hudson Bay Axe is made of Swedish high carbon steel with a bit hardened to HRC57, which is harder than most on the market. While the hard steel is excellent at retaining a sharp edge, care and professionalism should be exercised in cold weather to protect a bit this hard. In the old days, “real axe-men” used to put the head in the armpit to warm it up prior to use. Axe comes with a vegetable tanned, locally produced leather sheath, a 23" hickory handle, and a 20-year warranty. Total weight is approximately 3 lbs., and head weight is 2-1/2 lbs.
