    Hickory (Carya ovata) heartwood is light to medium brown and can have a reddish hue. Sapwood is a light yellowish-brown. Hardy and durable wood with straight, open grain and a medium texture. Keep tools sharp to reduce tear-out while working with this extremely hard wood. Common uses include cabinets, tools handles, chairs, stools, furniture and turning projects.
