    Details

When General Finishes first told us about this new water based urethane, to be honest, we were skeptical. However, after testing and using Enduro-Var all skepticism vanished as we realized this was not the typical water based top coat. First, Enduro-Varit uses a colored urethane resin which, like oil imparts a warm glow to wood that darkens or ages over time. Second, it’s an air oxidizing, rather than a simple evaporative, finish which means exposure to air facilitates the cure. This curing process produces an incredibly tough finish that is suitable for any interior application, including floors. Combine these two winning characteristics with the ease of water based application and we think you’ll agree that there is no better finish available. If you’ve been hesitant about using water based finishes, we challenge you to cast your skepticism aside and use Enduro-Var on your next project.

    Features:

    • Self crosslinking polyurethane

    • Looks more like an oil varnish than a water coating

    • Ambers slightly

    • Very durable coating

    • High water resistance

This is a remodeling project taken on by a DIY homeowner and shared with us from our Dayton Woodcraft store.  Although this may not be their “forever” home, Jane & Eugene are sprucing up every room in the house for that future sale.  Knowing that, this couple finds ways to keep within their budget while giving their home that special touch on a classy high-end level.  We begin in the kitchen with a before shot revealing a much needed makeover.  From what Jane calls her “disco bowling alley” kitchen with it’s old style counter tops, pictured next to the finished product complete with butcher block counter tops, we’ll show you how they did it, specifically the counter tops.

Perfect with one exception! Too amber!

For nearly 20 years I've used water based finishes on my guitars. Water base has come along way and this finish is proof. It's relatively easy to use, sands level and buffs wonderfully, dries quickly, and is very resistant to scratches and chipping. My only issue with it is that the amber tone is not natural in some situations. This probably would not be an issue for most wood projects. GF makes a similar finish (item # 149272) that is water clear but it is not quiet as durable. I would love to see a version of Enduro-Var that is water clear.

      Excellent water-based Urethane

Finally, a water-based clear finsh that can totally replace all my favorite solvent-based products! You can color-sand in 12 hours, and the flow out is the best I've seen. I have not sprayed yet, but can't wait. The hardness reminds me of an automotive clear. Amazing!
