    Brazilian Ebony (Swartzia panacoco) is a hard and durable wood commonly found in South America. The heartwood ranges from an olive-brown to a nearly black color and can have lighter or darker markings that are sharply separated from the sapwood, which is lighter and yellow in appearance. The grain is almost always straight but can have irregular patterns. Wood texture is usually fine and uniform, machines and turns well. Due to the high oil content material can be brought to a polished, marble-like finish. Common uses for Brazilian Ebony include high-class furniture, cabinet making, musical instruments of various types, turnery, sculpture, flooring, paneling and as a veneer.
