The 12" Deulen Sharpener is the answer to putting an edge on your jointer and planer knives. The key is the two brass blade holders inset into the hardwood handle. These tracks hold the blades securely and at the proper angle. With a blade in each track, it is a simply a matter of holding the handle and rubbing the blades against an abrasive surface. We recommend abrasive paper in a progression of grits from 120 to 400 grit for final polishing. It couldn’t be easier, and the proof is performance. More than one blade? In the case of 8" knives, just put two 8" blades on one, one the other. Three 12" blades? No problem! Dan has worked out a system of alternating the blades that takes just a little more time but yields the same fantastic results. Longer Blades? For For knives longer than 16", use two jigs put end to end. The bottom line: this is so easy to do you’ll no longer put off sharpening your blades, so your machine won’t work as hard and your finished surfaces will be smoother. Plus, you’ll save time and money. Each 12" sharpener comes with written instructions, a hex wrench and a short how-to video.

      Neat device

Jig had a minor defect that kept the two blades being sharpened from being parallel when installed. I contacted Deulen and they promptly sent me a replacement with a pre-paid return envelope. Great service.

Worked well on my old Joiner Knives

I had bought a used 8" joiner (Powermatic) with a set of 3 knives that had been nicked fairly badly. I was planning on ordering new blades to use, but decided to try and salvage the blades with this new tool. It worked very well and was simple to use. I did start out with a little courser sand paper than recommended as I had to set a new edge below the nicks. I used sandpaper over flat granite. My blades are sharp and back in service. The joiner is working great. Great tool and it worked just like the video. I have not tried my planer knives, but they are next.

Product build well, but the angle...

The jig is well built and functions as advertised. The only problem for me is that my planer blades are at a different angle than the jig. I was still able to sharpen them with the jig but at a shallower angle then the manufactured blades. That said, the sharpened blades sliced through hard wood leaving a SUPER smooth surface. One note is that I sharpened beyond 400 grit (up to 2000), but I think 600 would be sufficient for the same results. Getting nicks out take s while, probably should start on a grinder if they are too deep.

      It works

Used it to sharpen both my jointer and planer knifes. My planer uses knives that are not adjustable and works as good as new knives. Just follow the instructions. When I did my jointer knives I put one in and did not seat it properly so it was tapered a bit but still works fine as there was enough adjustment.

I would buy this product again

Eats sandpaper, will do 2- 3 blade sets of knives at best. Still, at [$] for sandpaper, very inexpensive.

      Worked as stated

Used it to sharpen my jointer and planer knives this week. I found when I sharpened the shorter jointer knives I didn't seat one of the knives in the Jig and sharpened it at an angle. I still was able to use the knife as sharpened. My planer uses disposable blades but they work as good as new knifes. Sharpening these seven knives used up the sand paper; if your going to use it a lot it you might need to buy the PSA paper bulk.
