Good product - could be better

I made this project as a gift for a family member. It came out very nice. I'd just like to see a design change in the product before I feel comfortable offering them for sale to a customer. When the wood is turned down to the bushings, it is VERY thin. I suspect it won't take much in the way of a temperature change to crack. I would like to see more wood left after turning by making the end caps and middle pieces at least 1/8" bigger in diameter. More would be better, the finished product is unexpectedly light weight.
