Knives must be sharp to cut properly, especially kitchen knives. Anyone who's ever used a kitchen knife to "squish" a tomato understands this point very well. Leave the hassles of sharpening behind with ceramic because they come sharp and stay sharp almost forever. Whether slicing a...

Fun little project
This was a very easy project and you will end up with a pretty cool little knife afterwards. As others have said, the ceramic is fragile and will chip easily if used on hard items. Works best on veggies, and is great for sushi prep due to the fact it is naturally nonstick. For sharpening you need to use a diamond surface 1000 grit or finer. A ceramic sharpening rod will not work and may actually chip the blade. I recommend taking to a professional sharpener who can handle ceramics well. I have been sharpening my own blades for nearly 20 years and I don't know that I will attempt to sharpen this. I bought this one as a cheap way to do my first handle, and had a lot of fun with it. Now to try my hand at one of the larger blades!

I like these knives and so do the people
I mainly use these as gifts and they are very well received

too fragile
edge chips in normal use as it hits other items. Drop it and it is broken.

Brittle and chips easily
Not ready for prime time. Ceramic is sexxy, but still not practical. The cutting edge chips at the slightest tap and it is almost impossible to sharpen.

Sharp indeed!
Very, very sharp. Does a superlative job of peeling and slicing a tomato. Good instructions are included for making a handle - I used some left-over mahogany - works great.

Fun project
If you have a router table, a 1/2 inch bit will cut an almost perfect recess for the tang. Cut the recess while you're still working with rectangular wood, before shaping begins. I use the knife for trimming meat before grilling or smoking.

Supersharp blade! Great Woodcraft kit.
This is an excellent kitchen knife kit from Woodcraft that my wife says is one of the best tools in her kitchen. With the native black cherry handle it is a one-of-a-kind kitchen tool. The 4" blade provides great utility for a variety of kitchen chores.

Nice Value!
The knife blank came well packaged and is a great value if you want to make your own handle. The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. I bought two of these and put Purpleheart handles on them as gifts.
