Dovetail Discovery Center – Part 2 & 3: Porter Cable & Leigh Jigs
We began with Hand-Cut Dovetails in Part 1 of the Dovetail Discovery Center Seminars held at the Toledo Woodcraft store.
In this 2 & 3 part blog, we will take a look at two dovetail jigs. John Nystrom in Part 2, will demonstrate the capabilities of the Porter-Cable 12″, Model 4210 Dovetail Jig, followed by Carl Kuhnle’s skill set in Part 3 on the Leigh Super 12″ Dovetail Jig.

How To Make Your Own Sign
Let’s begin with the MILESCRAFT TurnLock SignCrafter Sign Making Jig, Woodcraft Item #146219. You can create professional horizontal signs in no time at all. The ready to use kit includes templates, clamps, template guide bushing and carbide-tipped router bit. “Easy-To-Use” self-spacing templates ensure consistent signs every time with no measuring.

Great way to make templates useful
I got this set to use in conjunction with the Jasper Base Plate Adapter (also sold at my local Woodcraft, thank God). This was my first use of such bushings, and everything others have said regarding excellent fit, good gliding around the template opening & across the template services I second with great vehemence! These helped my first use be an amazing, quick success. Note that this set has both the same sizes as the standard Porter-Cable set, as well as an additional size NOT in the latter set (the largest size). Very good value!

WoodCraft-Bushings set top notch
I'm a duck call designer. I needed a template to make wood boxes that doesn't exist. So I designed one and made a beautiful template with this tool.

Allows using 1/4 ingn templates
These are particularly useful because you can use quarter inch high density fiber board to make templates, which is a more rugged choice than MDF and stay flat better than ply. This is good when making many copies of the piece. The short protrusion also allows you to cut a deeper groove or dado with a shorter, more stable bit.

Exactly what I expected and as well buil
Nicely constructed

Essential product--excellent range
Can't do template work without it--essential equipment in the wwprkshop

"Little Things Mean A Lot"
This set contains a wider range of sizes than most, and, coming from you, I knew it would be well made, but that alone is not why I bought it. I, like many others who take pride in our work and the materials we use, also tend to take pride in the tools we use to work with. Yes, there's a certain esthetic involved in choosing brass over a much more pedestrian aluminum or plated low-grade steel set, but there are other advantages to brass as well. Brass has a certain lubricity that allows it to slide against wood without as much pressure, thereby affording one less of a chance of marring the work. It is also why some are fly fishers, and some get by with a bent pin and string.

A good set of bushings
These bushings are of good quality and will do the work they are designed for. For the newer woodworker, make sure you understand what "other" items you need for your router before thinking these are it. make sure your sub-base will work, otherwise buy a new one at the same time (saves time, effort and frustration).

Bushing set
Nice selection. Great case. Shafts are a proper length (not too long).
-
Great price for great bushing set
These bushings are easy to use and fit the router base and the PC dovetail jig that I first used them on perfectly. Great sale price as well!

Good Set At A Decent Price
It fits my Dewalt 618 in both plunge and fixed modes. Easy to attach but does tend to loosen some with use. would be nice to have two flats sides to stick a wrench on. Good sizes, well machined and round with no flat spots I could find.
-
Excellent Quality
These bushings are very well made; well-machined and very precise from the standpoint of size specs. I checked each bushing with a digital veneer caliper and they were either exactly on the money, or very, very close. I am super pleased with this product.

Router work! Complete!

Excellent Qualtyi
If you,re going to invest in 2 routers to cut dovetails with a jig; One for tails, one for pins; then you need to also purchase 2 bushing sets so that each router stays set-up once it is zeroed in.

great set
I searched for a set, this is great. Works great. Love the case to keep them all together. recomend to all
-
Very good set
Nice set of bushings. All being the same depth is a plus to me. The case is not bad, but it is what is inside that is important to me. Very satisfied.

10 Piece Router Bushing Set = Good Value
Bushings are terrific ... the case is a little flimsy.
-
Well machined and nice set
compared to other products from other companies, this one stood out as better
-
Nice Set!
I just picked these up when they went on sale [$] Initial thoughts are great: Of all the inside and outside diameters, 5 were +/- 0.0010" of what they were supposed to be and the rest were less than this! So, the machined quality is there compared to reviews I've read of other sets. They have a collar depth of 15/64". The threads are also nice and smooth.Initial thoughts on the case are good. The bushings are held securely. Time will tell how the hinges and closing snaps hold up.
-
Great product, cheesy case
Bushings are great, all have same "depth", unlike many bushing sets. The case is definitely a little on the cheap side, but then, most cases don't last forever.... I'd recommend it!
-
Excellent quality and the case is needed
Use it with the Porter Omni-Jig for making drawers, dovetail and finger joints. Also use it with the sign letter-making kit. The case makes it easy to store and the brass is first class quality. I am very please. No negative comments at all. Thank you. Keep selling top quality merchandise.

The uses for this product are well known. And this is a fine set of router bushings.

10 Piece Router Bushing Set with Case
Nice case
-
good solid product
These are a nice precision milled set of brass bushings. These are nice as the depth of all the bushings are the same. I've seen other products that vary the depth of the bushing with the different diameters of bushings that people have bought and cut to meet their needs ... but why? These will meet all your needs.

Excellent Value
I bought this set to use with the Woodriver Dovetail Jig, and found the bushing set to be of excellent quality. This was purchased on sale at less than $20.00, thats an outstanding value!
