The "Rolling Arm" (Bent Lamination) Savannah Chair

The most important criterion for an indoor/outdoor chair is that it be comfortable for relaxing, reading and conversing in a study or garden setting. We decided to take a chair that is well known for comfort, relaxation and traditional adirondack design and get outside the box. Our creation is a version that is easier to get in and out of. To add some character we put some playful curves and "Rolled" the arms to increase the comfort. A similar version of this chair can be seen in the April issue of Fine Woodworking magazine appropriately called "Adirondack with a Twist." The back of our chair will be a bit taller and to make the chair easier to get out of the seat will also be higher. The wide curved arms make a fantastic visual statement as well as provide structural integrity. They are made from eight, 1/8" thick laminations and this adds the final touches to a uniquely elegant chair.

Band Saw Basics And Tuning

Band saws are a very versatile tool, but they need to be tuned and maintained properly for optimal performance. Learn the techniques and skills to adjust your band saw and keep it performing to its potential. The class will cover blade selection, wheel alignment and adjustment, blade guides, table adjustment and other tricks to achieve top performance. You will leave the class with the knowledge to have your band saw performing tasks from sawing your own lumber to perfect circles and veneer reliably and easily.

Beginner's Lathe Class

Thursday, June 5, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

This is a hands on class that will introduce you to the basics of woodturning. The focus will be on how to safely use a lathe while having fun. You will learn how secure stock to the lathe as well as the basic parts of the lathe. Curtis will teach you how to use spindle gouges, scrapers, bowl gouges, parting tools, chucks and more. Basic Tool Sharpening will also be introduced. Come join Curtis and have some fun on the Lathe!
