with David SchlickeisenPart 1: Tuesday, May 6, 5:30 PM - 9 PM
Part 2: Wednesday, May 7, 5:30 PM - 9 PM
Mid-century modern furniture design emerged as a prominent style during the post-WWII era, propelled by visionary designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Florence Knoll, and Eero Saarinen. Its clean lines and minimalistic aesthetic contribute a timeless and refined touch to any home. In an age dominated by mass production and automation, you can rediscover the gratification of crafting a piece of heirloom-quality, hardwood furniture that is both designed and constructed to withstand the test of time. In this two-part class, you will have the opportunity to construct this unique design under the guidance of our instructor, from beginning to end. The design showcases a trapezoidal tabletop and elegant, tapered legs, which present an enjoyable and intermediate challenge within the Woodshop. By participating in this class, you will not only gain valuable skills, but you will also take home a furniture piece that will become a cherished part of your family's collection for generations to come. Throughout the course, you will learn the art of cutting complementary angles on the table saw to achieve a perfectly-mitered trapezoidal tabletop. Additionally, you will master the construction of super-sturdy, detachable leg assemblies, ensuring convenient transportation of the finished piece.
