Woodcraft Magazine August/September 2012 Preview

The August/September Issue #48 of Woodcraft Magazine is yours for the viewing and can be purchased at your local Woodcraft store. The front cover features a contemporary kitchen table built for a smaller kitchen in mind by Woodcraft’s senior editor, Paul Anthony. Made from cherry, this table is sized at a 30″ width x 48″ in length with a 30″ height.

Following the detailed layout instructions in the magazine will ensure a strong long-lasting build with mortise and tenon structure as the foundation. Paul completes the design by planing the top-side end-grain with a comfortable beveled edge.

Another project in this issue includes live-edge bowl turnings by Pennsylvania’s Michael Kehs. He has been a carver and woodturner for 30 years. While doing commission and exhibition work, he still finds time to teach at his studio and for the Allentown, PA Woodcraft storeLearn Michael’s step-by-step process from raw log to finished turned bowl.

A Tile-Top Box is created by our Editor-in-Chief, Jim Harrold. Made from sycamore, walnut and ebony, this box is assembled with dovetail key locks at the mitered corners. The lid frames a ceramic tile top with a transferred photo image making this box a treasured keepsake for years to come. In this build, a jig is built which is required to cut the dovetail slots. Also included for this project is instruction on how to build the Box-Maker’s Miter Sled.

Complete details, cut lists and buying guides are included for all three projects.

The August/September issue has a Tool & Techniques area with two articles written by Craig Bentzley. One on orthographic drawings bringing back the old fashioned way of drafting beforeCAD! The other on “Jointing Unplugged” showing how to plane short, thin or narrow stock items.
